The Giver--Blog Prompt 1D
Once Jonas is selected as the next Receiver of Memory, his training begins. This training involves listening carefully as The Giver shares memories of the world from back and back and back. Each memory The Giver shares leaves a profound impression on Jonas.Recall a memory from your life that left a deep impression on you or that affected you in some way. Tell us about the memory, and then decide how your life would be different if you did not have this memory.

From my memory I remember when I first caught a fish at my grandpa's pond. It was so exciting and I instantly knew I would like this. Later I would learn to throw the fish off the hook and stay out for a while. Even though I do not like the taste of the fish, catch and release is still very fun and will probably be one sport I enjoy doing. This memory taught me to like fishing.
Thank you for sharing this fun memory! I like to fish, too. But, I also like to eat them!!!

A memory that I have that has affected me until this day was the day I had to quit golfing. I cherished all the days I was in tournaments and practices, which that affected me in a sorrowful way, since I haven't played Golf in years. If I did not quit Golf I would be challenging my father to a match every week. At least I still have more sport opportunities to play.
Maybe one day you'll get back to golfing. Just a note...you shouldn't capitalize golf because it isn't a proper noun.

A memory from my life that left a deep impression on me was my little sister GiGi having Down syndrome. If GiGi hadn't been born my mom wouldn't have been able to open GiGi's Playhouse to help other kids with Down syndrome, I wouldn't have as much knowledge on the topic, and I wouldn't have the best sister in the world

A memory that affected me is the time when I hurt my shoulder in volleyball. This affected me because I had to take time off from playing volleyball and let my shoulder heal if I wanted to play again. This experience affected me in a positive and negative way. The negative way it affected me is I could not play volleyball for a month and the positive way it affected me is I can now use my right and my left hand to play my position. One memory I have is when I was in third grade. One day, my brother was hanging out with his friends on the monkey bars. He thought he could do the whole thing while skipping a bar. But he slipped and fell face down on the wood chips. We had to get an ambulance and it really scared me that he would not be okay. When he came back from the hospital, he said he was fine, but his knees hurt. This changed my life because now I always look out for him and make sure he is being safe.

A memory that made a big impact on my life would probably be moving so many times. I have moved schools five times. I think this is a big memory because I met so many new people and when I started to begin to get good friends I would have to move away. A memory that I had was losing in the semi-finals of my football season and how heart broken I was. We came so close but then losing to the opponents. I remember my teammates crying and I could tell that that they were also very sad. A memory of mine is a this year at cheer practice. My team had a big competition coming up. On one of our Wednesday practices we kept going through our routine. Soon My friends ankle started to hurt. She fought through the pain and kept tumbling and it got worse. The next day she went to the doctors to get a X-ray. She fractured her foot. This affected me greatly because she is in all of my stunts. My coach got someone to fill in for her and we had to change some stuff. We ended up doing a great routine. My team got third and I think maybe if we did not have to change everything we could of got first. If this did not happen we could have beaten all of the teams and won Grand Champs. She is all better now and is competing with us this weekend. I am thrilled for it.
This taught you how important one person can be to the entire team :)

The memory that I recall that really impacted my life is when my little sister was born. This was a very happy and memorable memory, because without my sister, I would just be living with two brothers. She always cheered me up when I was down, and always made my day better somehow. One memory that had greatly affected me was when I had nearly broke my finger during volleyball practice. I was very disappointed after I injured my finger because I couldn't participate in volleyball for a full week. Even afterwards, I had become frightened to use the finger for many tasks. After a while in the pool I decided that I wanted to go to the hot tub with my Mom and my sister. My Dad started playing Marco Polo with me and when he went underwater I got out of the pool and started toward the hot tub. When my Dad came back up I was gone. I remember when I was in first grade, I broke my arm. It was field day at my school, a couple of days before summer, and I was doing activities with my classmates. Then, a teacher said,"Popsicle's! Come and get it" So, I ran with the rest of the class to get one and I fell with my left arm bent in front of my cheat. Later, I went to the hospital, and they told me that my arm was broken. If I did not have that experience, my life would be very different. For example, I could not have sympathy if this happened to someone. I would not know how much it hurt, or how tiring it might be for someone with something broken. Also, I would not know how to deal with things. When I came back to sports it was really hard for me to get back I needed to strengthen my leg back up but it was very difficult because it would hurt even if I barely did anything.

The bad memory was when i sprained my ankle, it had a negative and positive effect on me.The reason why i had a negative effect on me was because i couldn't play basket or any sports for 1 month. The reason why it had a positive because i always thought that i would never get injured because i always thought i was to go but when i did sprain my ankle it made me think twice on what else could have happen besides my ankle getting sprain.
Sorry Melvin i bet it hurt man i could see how that was bad for you

One of the deepest memories I had ever had is probably moving to a new home and a new school. It happened in 2010 in the middle of third grade. I had moved from my house in Hoffman Estates to South Barrington, where I still live today. I had also changed my school to Rose, in our current district. Without this memory, the things I do daily will have been changed greatly from our house's position, to the environment.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was about 8 I lost my great grandpa, I was very sad because him living in Canada I only got to see him about once a year, but whenever I saw him I spent all of my time with him. So it took me a while to get back on track and realize I wouldn’t be visiting him at his house anymore.

This a memory that could really impact, even if you didn't see him that much. When I lost someone it would also take me awhile to get over the fact that that person is gone.

One of my biggest memories was when I broke my hand while playing basketball. I really had a hard time adjusting from this injury because I did everything with my hands and this was my first major injury. Now I am more careful doing things because I remember the pain. Without this memory I would not be as careful as I am now.

When I moved to South Barrington from Woodridge, it impacted my life because I had to leave all of my old friends and make new ones. One of my friends has been friends with me since we moved to Woodridge, 5 days after I was born.

One of the deepest memories I had was jumping off the Channel. The Channel is a small type of "canal" that boats and yachts drive through to get into lake Michigan. My family owns a house up in Michigan and we go up there a few times a year. Although you are not supposed to people jump into the Channel every once in awhile and if a cop catches you jumping in, it is a couple hundred dollar fine. I have only ever jumped in the Channel twice and it is so much fun. It is just like jumping off a double high dive. The first time was when I was in 2nd grade and my cousins dared me too. the rush of wind is my favorite part. It was a very exhilarating experience.

One memory I had was when my dog Harley had to be put down and my dad came home and we just got home and told us when we were all sitting down, it was hard because Harley had been in our family before we were even born. She was in pain, so I was happy that she got put down because I could not see her in agony. Everyone cried ...except me, my dad told me it was ok to cry an d instead I said I know and went up stairs. That night when everyone was asleep, I quietly cried and was sad and hurt she had to be put down. I don't know why, but I can't cry for a death when people are around me. My life would be different if that did not happen because when I am sad I always think about the family members I have lost and sometimes even cry. I would not have been crying and sad for my family and I's loss.

One memory that affected me, is when I lost the first soccer game that I ever played. It made me not want to give up in soccer because that’s something that I understand and that I enjoy. If I didn’t have this memory then I wouldn’t remember who I first met in soccer and what position I play, but most importantly I wouldn’t remember what fun I had when I first started the game.
I have a similar memory to when I lost my first volleyball game that I ever played. I still had fun and you shouldn't give up because you can always learn something from it.

When I was about 7 I broke 3 parts to my wrist. I fell off the monkey bars and when I fell I landed on my wrist. My mom ran outside and gave me some medicine. I was ok till the next day at the doctors office. I found out it was broken. I was really sad but it ended up being ok when I got my pink cast and all my friends wrote on it.

When I was 7 I was stung by a manowar. A manowar is a jellyfish that can be very deadly. I remember seeing this strange plastic bag like thing was up on the beach. I thought it was garbage so went over and picked it up and then took it over to my parents. I was crying my eyes out, still holding the thing, when I got to them but then all I said was, “Whe-e-errzz the garbage.” It was a strange day for me and I’m always gonna remember that day.
I have heard they look like a floating plastic bag, but I didn't think it was really true.

Memories to when I don't do so well in school help me to strive more for my grades. When I moved into district 220 I had to catch up with a years worth of work, at the beginning it was really hard but then I put time and effort into it and I did well at the end. Then on future days I always remember getting into district 220 and working hard. If I didn't have this I probably would not have been able to get the courage to do better in my studies

One memory that really impacted me was when my dog, Zeus, broke his jaw. At the time he was only 6 weeks old, and we didn't think that he would live through it. I remember how we stayed until one in the morning, waiting to see if the doctors could fix his jaw and if it was a fatal bite. He could have had serious brain damage, and possibly died, but I'm glad he didn't. Since he was so severely injured, I had to spend all of my summer taking care of him. It was boring, and I didn't do much, but I was glad he was finally getting better. Since the accident, we have been a lot more careful with having other dogs near Zeus. It was an eye opening experience, and I don't think my life would be the same if it hadn't happened.

One of my worst memories was when I was little and I was riding my bike on our driveway alone and my bike got caught in the grass because I was trying to ride in the grass for some reason, and my bike fell over and I scraped my knee and I remember my leg being so bloody. But I was alone so I had to walk inside and tell someone, I remember it hurting so much and now I have a scar to remind me of it. This reminds me to be careful when playing.

DeleteI too have a very similar memory, I had ridden my bike and scraped my knee on the concrete, I had been sitting outside screaming for help for around 5 minutes. It gave me the realization to be careful, like you, but it also helped me to realise that you should always have someone monitor you.

A memory that affected me was when my parents signed me up for volleyball at sky high. I was kind of worried a first because I knew that sky high was a travel club and not just a place where I could play for fun. When I showed up at the first day of try outs I thought for sure that I wasn't going to make it because I had never played in my life except for in the back yard with my family. Everyone knew the rules and how to play except for me. But as try outs went on I started to realize that I wasn't so bad after all. I ended up making the top team. Some of my best friends are friends from that team that are also on my team now too. If I did not play volleyball I would hav never went to Texas, Missouri, and Minnesota.

There were many memories that I remember vividly in my life. But one that affected me the most would be when I got my first pair of Jordan shoes. I know it sounds really stupid but my first pair of Jordan shoes were retro 1 North Carolina powder Blues. I got them in 3rd grade. When I got my shoes It made me wanna be just like Mike. I watched youtube videos non stop of Michael Jordan and then I would go outside to my driveway and try to copy everything he did to be just like him. Michael Jordan was just a name to me before 3rd grade because I was just a baby when he retired and I couldn't watch him. But when I got my first pair of Jordan's The Michael Jordan name was a reality to me and it inspired me. That is my most vivid memory that has impacted me

A memory that really affected me was when my parents decided to sign me up for Lacrosse. Having an older brother, it really helps with what sports to choose. I was in 1st grade when he started playing lacrosse, and at the time, lacrosse was not popular whatsoever. When I was in 4th grade, and my whole family had to drive out to Naperville to go to one of his games, I really saw an interest in the sport. My parents signed me up that year, and from the moment I stepped foot on the field, I loved it. If I didn't play lacrosse, I would not have as much joy in my life as I do now.

I would be different if I didn't have the memorie of me starting soccer because I wouldn't love soccer as much as I do now and it wouldn't make me who I am today I would just be home doing nothing and eating junk food. So this changes me because I wouldn't be me and this is the true me it is soccer.

I had lost my Great Grandma about 5 months ago. It was a very hard time for me and my family. It took a while to get out of everybody's system and there is still some left definitely. It was a terrible 2 weeks of my life. Seeing her one day and then having to say goodbye the next. I was with her the whole time and I am happy I got to spend her last days with her. If that memory never happened then I would be normal and always go see her every day. I always put a smile on her face and she would always put one on mine :].

The memory I had was when one of my birds dying. I remembered how I just woke up, getting ready to school, and seeing the bird laying down the cage, I was terrified. At first I thought it was sleeping, but looking closer, it was in a corner, and I cried. And I just didn’t know why, I don’t know why I had feelings for the bird, all I did was feed it, and saw it fly, and played with it a bit, Even though it wasn't like a dog and a person that they care about each other, but still. And I learned how even on a death of someone you don’t know that much, it can still impact you. This showed me how feelings can do a lot to you. How my life would be different is I wouldn't know someone you care about, and losing them, that it wouldn't matter. But I know that it matters, even if it’s someone you know a bit or so.
When I was 6 I remember that my dad lowered the basketball hoop for me I did't even know it . Then when he said dunk I was like I can't he said try . I finaly said ok, I ran at the hoop as fast as I could then dunked I was so happy and it has encouraged me in my life to play basketball.
