(6C) The Giver-Ch. 2 Response

6C
At the end of Chapter 2, Lily wants her "comfort object," a stuffed elephant. Jonas had a stuffed bear when he was little. He dismisses them as imaginary creatures...and he's talking about the real animals, not the stuffed animals.

Where are the animals in this society?.
What would be your comfort object? A bear? A cat? A dog? A Pillow Pet?

I believe that they don't have any animals in the society because some people are allergic to some animals. I believe my comfort object would be a bear 'cause I was give a bear when I was born so yeah.

    1. I think you brought up a good point with the health concerns that the people may have with the animals. Animals can spread disease, people have allergies, and they can just be a burden in general.

  2. I think that the animals are outside the Community, in the wild. Since the only time these people go out into the wild is when your released, and nobody comes back after they've been released. My comfort object would probably be a stuffed fox, or something kind of weird like that.

    3. I think you're right. Just like in books like The Giver and Divergent, people in a seemingly "perfect" society, they are not let out of the world. So, in order to create that "perfect" world illusion, they got rid of the animals just as they did with the imperfect humans.

I think that the animals in this society are unidentified because of restrictions. I think that maybe the people are not allowed to be in certain places where the animals are for either safety reasons or some other reason for why the society can not see any animals but I think it is probably because they are afraid of the animals. I think that my comfort object would be a stuffed animal Labrador because I own one and she is my best friend.

I do not think there would be animals in this type of society. There may be some tamed animals in labs and occasionally running free but none in a house hold with children. I think that maybe after the children grow old and move out then the parents might get a pet, maybe a cat or a dog but nothing else.
If I were to live in this type of utopia my comfort object would be a mere stuffed animal, pillow pet type thing. If I had an actual animal like a cat or dog or bear I would go to attached to it and not want to give it up when I am older.

I think that the real animals might have been “ released.” The real animals might have all been killed because the society did not think that they need animals and they were just an annoyance. I think this because Jonas said that he does not know exactly what the word “animal” means and he calls animals imaginary creatures. I would choice a giant teddy bear for my comfort object.

I don't think that there are any animals in the society. I don't think that Jonas and Lily know what animals even are, because if they did, they probably wouldn't choose an elephant or a bear. Those two animals can be dangerous, and if they knew what those animals were capable of, they probably wouldn't have chose those animals to comfort them. If I had a comfort object, I would choose a monkey because monkeys are my favorite animal. If I had to ever get rid of that animal that became such a good friend to me, I would not be happy.

I think all the animals either migrated where there is no people, are extinct, or got killed. I think this because they clearly don’t have a clue what an animal is, and they say in the book “This is called a bear…” or something like that, as if they didn’t know what a bear was. My comfort object is a mini moose pillow pet that I got as a gift.

  47. So far in the book, animals are not in the society. But, they just use the animals as stuffed animals. My comfort object in that society would be a bear because in that society you do not know about dangerous animals and you would not know that a bear is dangerous, and bears are very soft because of their fur. So, I would pick a bear.

The animals in this society are gone because they are to dangerous, and I believe that they might also take up to much space. Since they say that the animals are dangerous they are now gone. There are no pets in their society. Many household pets make you feel better and make you feel real emotion. There is no need for pets because the people in Jonas’s world feel no emotion. A pet will just change that. Something that comforts me is an angel wing necklace that my grandma gave me to represent her. 75. I think that the animals in the society were taken out/ released from the new world. The whole idea of the society is about perfection and, believe it or not, animals are not perfect. They are messy, noisy, and uncivilized. I don't really need to make up my comfort object. I think it would be my pink teddy bear Anna. I do not think there are any animals in this book. Sure, they did mention in the book a couple times about animals and comfort animals. But because of the Society's strict restrictions and limitations, I can infer that the heads of the society eliminated the existence of animals in this book because the society in this novel is strict. But I myself like the children in this book have a comfort animal. Well kind off. My comfort animal would be the horse quilt my grandma made for me when I was little because at the time I was obsessed with horses I do not know why.
