Crossing the Wire
Victor Flores lives with his family in Los Arboles, Mexico. His family grows corn in Los Arboles and sells it. However, when the price of corn drops dramatically Victor has to take action. Since Victor is the oldest in the family and his father is dead, Victor decides to cross the wire and go to the United States. Victor crosses the wire and meets up with his friend Rico who is doing the same thing as him. They have to go through many obstacles on the way but they end up growing asparagus in Washington. But the pressure gets to Rico and he decides to go back to Mexico while Victor stays in Washington.
Significant choice: Victor decides to go to America and earn money for his family.
Effect on people: It affects his mom because her son is leaving on a dangerous trip. However, when she gets her first check from America it should relieve her because he knows he is okay.
Opinion: I agree with Victor because I would go to America to make money, if it meant my family wouldn’t starve.
My opinion of the character is that I care and love my family.

This book is about an Mexican family that is poor. Victor(the main caricature) dad died when he was a little boy. victors dad was the family's main sores of money. to get money for his family he travels to America to fined money.
the significant choice that victor has made keeps this story alive each page I wonder what is going to happen next to victor and his friends on his vary long journey to America for money
victors decision effects his hole family. it must be hard to live as poor corn farmers when there dad has died and the oldest son has set off on a long journey. they are wondering if he is safe and if he is able to get money to send back to his family.
I agree with this choice because if they did not get money they would die so taking the risk of dying like his dad to get money seams logical to me

Summary: The Society controls everything: What you eat, what school you go to, what job you have, who you marry, and even when you die. Cassia has trusted the Society all along, until she gets matched. Cassie is matched with only one person, but another option has become clear, and Cassia is worried, because the society never makes mistakes. Now she has to choose between to people, between love for freedom, or laws controlled by the Society.
The significant choice that Cassia made was that she followed her own choice, and not the way she was supposed to go. Cassia then had to face the consequences, all the dangers of being sent out into the outer provinces.
Her choice has affected Xander, her match, who now worries about her and himself, because Ky, another friend of both of them, has decided to tell Cassie secrets, which get them closer and closer, leaving Xander out of it.
I do not think the Cassia made the right choice, because even though she did follow her own thoughts and wanted freedom, others might follow her example, leading to an overthrow of the Society and the downfall of the government.
My opinion of Cassia shows me that I care more about the entire government itself rather than personal feelings.

Zach's Lie by Roland Smith
Summary:Jack Osborne is in grave danger. His father had been transporting illegal drugs to other countries, and finally told the police. The man he worked for, Alonzo Aznar, is after him. Jack, Joanne, and Mom are being searched for by the man so that they can threaten to kill them to Dad. One night, three men come into Jack's house. They threaten to kill Jack, Joanne, and Mom if they tell anyone about it.
The significant choice the main character, Zach, made is trusting Sam, a strange custodian at his school who used to be a spy.
This choice helped the drug dealers be put in jail.
I agreed with his choice, because telling the truth is always the best option.
My opinion of Zach shows me that I care about telling the truth.

Crossing the Wire by Will Hobbs
Ever since his family moved to the tiny village of Los Árboles, Victor has been best friends with Rico. When Rico tells him that he has enough money to pay for a coyote to help him cross into El Norte, Victor is unable to decide if he, too, should go along and look for work or try to feed his family with the pitiful annual corn harvest. The decision is made for him the next day when he discovers that the corn prices have bottomed out and that there is no point in even planting this year. Readers suffer with the 15-year-old as he makes his painful decision to leave his mother and younger siblings and attempts the dangerous border crossing, jumping trains, fleeing thieves and border officials, and suffering from thirst and hunger. His desperation and fear are completely believable as he faces near-death situations and must decide whom to trust.
The significant choice the main character, Victor, makes is that he tries to cross the border between Mexico and the US.
This choice would help him send money to his family to live.
I agreed with this choice, because his family needed the money, because the corn prices were dropping that year.
The opinion of Victor shows me that I care about my family.

Summary:
Victor Flores lives Los Arboles, Mexico. Corn sell price has dropped for a long while, Family gets no income so Victor crosses the border alone see's a person that looks like he could go up with. Still goes alone, plan fails takes a few day resting in Nogales (on the border of Mexico and USA). Takes a bus to the middle on nowhere, crosses the border again with his best friend from home town and gets a job picking asparagus in Washington (state), makes money sends the money to his house in Mexico. Friend can't take the pressure goes back to Mexico.
Important choise: Chose to got to the US to make money to save family back in Mexico. This impacted the story since if he didn't go to the US than he would lose everything. and the story wouldn't have existed.I agree on this desission because that was really the only dession that was logical. My opinion of the choice shows that it is me since I usually think before I act, (not say, act)
and find the smartest way out.

Zach's Lie by Roland Smith
Summary: Zach Granger’s family is in horrible trouble, his father is in jail for drug dealing. Also, three men come to his house and threaten to kill his family. The three men are after them because their boss, and the dads ex-boss, is mad at dad. So he thinks threatening/trying to kill Zach’s family is good to make sure the dad doesn't talk.
The choice Zach made was trusting the custodian at his new school. The custodian is secretly a spy and helps Zach with the issues.
I agree with Zachs choice. If he didn't trust the custodian his family and Catalin would have died.
My opinion of the character shows me that trust is very important.

ReplyDeleteMy summer reading book was called, Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith.
Summary:
Zach Granger’s real name isn't really Zach Granger. It is Jack Osbourne. Jack’s father got caught by the police, flying out to other countries and selling drugs. Now Jack’s father is in jail. Jack and his sister, Joanne, and his mother have to go into the witness protection program to stay safe from the bad guys (they worked with Jack’s father) that are coming after Jack and his family. Jack Osbourne and his family change their names and their appearance and move to Elko, Nevada to start a whole new life. Jack (now Zach) meets this very unusual custodian and this girl named Catalin who makes Zach’s moving to Elko and starting over their entire lives, not so bad. Zach loves to keep journals and so did his dad. Zach wrote down everything thats happened to him in those journals. When one of Zach’s acquaintances finds those journals, he gives some information to the bad guys. The bad guys almost catch Zach but Sam, the custodian, just so happened to be a spy and he gets Zach out of all of the trouble with the bad guys and the bad guys go to jail. One of the choices that Zach’s dad made was to work with people who sold drugs. This choice impacted the story a lot. Because of Jack’s fathers’ choice, Jack and his family had to change their whole identities and go into hiding. I do not agree with this choice because I know it is illegal to sell drugs and I know that it would eventually affect me and my family. My opinion of Jack’s dad and his choice shows that I am a caring person and that I am always afraid to get in trouble. It also shows that I want to always follow the rules.

Summary: Victor Flores lives with his poor family in Los Arboles, Mexico. His family grew corn and the price for corn has dropped lots so the oldest boy of the family decides he wants to go to America for better money and so that he send the money that he earns in America to his family in Mexico. They have to face lots of obstacles along the way but they end up in Washington growing asparagus. But Rico can't take being away from home and under all the pressure so he goes back to Mexico while Victor stays in America.
Significant choice: Is that Victor decides to go to America to earn money for his family.
Effect on people: It makes there life harder when he's on his trip but it makes it easier when they get money in the mail.
Opinion: I agree because id he hadn't gone then they would have starved.
My opinion of the character is that you can take risks and succeed.

The Society controls everyones lives. Where you live, who you marry, and even when you die. Cassia always trusted the Society’s decisions. It was until her match baquet everything changed. When destiny was calling her to Xander, love was pushing her towards Ky. Her whole world was flipped upside down. Now, she has let her feelings get in the way of fate, and has to choose between the Society’s choices and her own.
Cassia decided to follow her feelings instead of the Society’s choices. She chose love instead of destiny. As she does this, her feelings lead her to many consequences, and yet she still fights and continues to disobey the Society.
Her choice affects the one who has done nothing wrong, and the one who has done everything. Xander is now involved and it affects his feelings towards her because he realizes she loves someone else. On the other hand, her choice has affecte Ky, and he had been telling her secrets and things unknown to the citizens. He has put Cassia and himself in danger.
I don’t think Cassia made the right choice. Not because she followed her heart and love, but because she rebelled and didn’t follow the Society’s choices. It could lead to major problems like a war because other people start rebelling, or something worse.
My opinion on Cassia shows me that I know what limits I can’t push when it comes to rules and situations like this.

Rules
This summer I read the book Rules by: Cynthia Lord. This book was about a teenage girl who has a brother with a disability. Catherine has to take care of her brother for the most part and to make the job a little easier she sets rules for her brother David to follow. A new girl moves next door named Kristi and Catherine becomes best friends with her. Catherine’s significant choice was to tell Kristi the truth about her brother. Catherine’s choice impacted the story because it changed everybody’s mind by starting to accept different people. I agree with Catherine’s choice because I would rather be me and let m y family be who they are no matter what others think. My opinion about Catherine’s choice shows me that to just be yourself and don’t let words bring you down.

The society chooses everything. What you eat, drink, when you die, and even who you marry. Cassia is loving the way things are going sh is matched with her best friend Xander. But when Cassia watches the microcard that she is given about Xander, and the picture of a face that is supposed to be of Xander is really of one of her other friends Ky. Cassia is very worried about this because what the society chooses is supposed to always be the right choice. Cassia starts to pay more attention to Ky during her hiking classes with him and starts to fall in love with him. Cassia must come to a decision. Either follow her heart or obey the society.
Cassia's decision is to follow her heart and try to live her life with Ky. The one she loves. Cassia's feelings lead her to many consequences and affect other people in her life.
This decision affected Ky and Xander. It affected Ky, because he and Cassia told each other things that they were not suppose to know. It affected Xander, because he had not done anything wrong to change Cassia's decision. He was then left alone without Cassia even though they are still legally matched.
I dd not agree with the choice that Cassia has made, because I think that it is very important to follow the government and the rules that you are given.
My opinion about Cassia's choice shows me to follow all the rules whether they are given by a teacher or the government.

Summary:
The Society. They control everything in the people of the future's lives. Nobody living with the Society, or within the Society had any problems. Except the people living Outer Provinces: Anomalies .
Cassia had no problems with the Society. They kept everything in order and didn't make mistakes. Until the night of her Match ceremony. She got her perfect match, Xander, her best friend. Everything was looking up for her. That is until she looked at her card with Xander's information on it: another face popped up.
Ky Markham. The Aberration. She knew him as a child, and he was a quiet type of person. But still, after the incident, Cassia was drawn to him.
As she entered to world of secrets unknown to their world, and a forbidden love, Cassia has to make a choice:
Follow her heart or stick to her boring, old life.
As Cassia chooses to learn more about the Old ways, she breaks all the rules and commits Infractions. But, she gets closer to Ky and revealing the hard truth.
As Cassia made all these "bad" choices, as viewed in the eyes if the Society, she affected all the loved ones around her. Xander became heartbroken as Cassia and her family moved to the Farms. Ky got taken away to fight as a soldier, because the Society predicted everything. As they say, The Society knows everything.
I agree with Cassia, about the choices she made. Always do the right thing. But doing that, and standing up to everyone, is a really hard choice to make.
My opinion of the character shows who I am because I want to do the right thing. I always do. But in the end, standing up to higher authority can be intimidating and cause you to lower your guard.

In the book rules, a girl named Catherine is having a hard time live with her brother, David, who happens to have autism. When a new neighbor moves next door, Catherine thinks she will finally have a friend her age. Instead of wanting to play with Catherine, the girl next door is often playing with a boy, a certain boy to be exact, David's bully. At Davids therapy appointment, Catherine meets a boy, Jason, who cannot speak, and must communicate with word cards. She realizes the word cards are basic words, and decides to make him new words.
Catherine soon realizes the true meaning of friendship when the girl she thought she was friends with next door ditched her for David's bully. Eventually Catherine chooses Jason over her friend next door, seeing as he will really be there for her.
Since she chose to not be friends with her neighbor, she no longer feels pressure to hide David, and not be her true self around friends.
I agree with Catherine's choice because it was definitely unfair the way her neighbor would treat/act around David.
My opinion of Catherine's choice shows who i am because i always try to be friends with people who are kind to the people round them, and not just one specific person.

Matched is mostly based in the future. The government decides everything. Who you marry, what you wear, what you eat, etc. When Cassia (the main character) gets matched with her best friend, Xander everything changes. A little bit later a boy named Ky shows up on her tablet . Cassia starts to fall in love with Ky, but is still in love with Xander but he doesn’t know it. Cassia and Ky are hiking partners. On one of their hiking trips Ky shows Cassia how to write even though they aren’t allowed to. At the end of the book Cassia has to make a very hard decision if she likes Ky or Xander. She chooses Ky. This impacted others, especially Xander because he is her match. I personally disagree with the choice she made because she was matched with Xander first and she should listen to what the government said. This shows that if I got matched with someone I would stick with him because I follow what the government says I should do.

Summary: Victor Flores is a fifteen year old boy who lives in Los Arboles, Mexico. Victors family is poor due to the price of corn dropping drastically. Things are starting to turn around for victor. Victor hears that his best friend Rico is going to attempt to cross the boarder into the Americas to get money to help his family out. Victor is forced to make a choice to either stay with his family and starve, or go to America with Rico to help provide money for his family. Victor makes the decision to go with rico to make money. But along the way obstacles appear and give Rico and Victor much trouble.
Significant Choice: I think that Victors choice was very significant because he was going for his family or else they would of died.
Effects Others: Victors choice effects others by just leaving his family to survive until Victor makes enough money.
Agree: Yes I do agree with victors choice because he was going for his family to save them from starving.

Catherine just wants to be like all the other girls at school, which is really hard for her because her younger brother David has autism. Then one summer Catherine meets this one boy named Jason who also has disabilities like David. Then Kristi moves into the house next to Catherine who knows how she feels.
Catherine choose to go and help Jason because he’s handicap so it’s harder for him to communicate than other people. She decided to make more talking cards for him so he can talk more and so he can explain what he wants and he feels.
Catherine’s choice impacted the other characters because Jason wanted Catherine to go to the dance with him but Kristi also wanted to go to the dance with her. So she had to choose who she wanted to go with.
I didn't agree with Catherine’s choice because I would rather go to a dance with a girl than a boy. But I would have to spend a lot of time thinking about who I wanted to go with because I didn't want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
My opinion of who Catherine choose to go with tells that I am a caring person that doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings and that I care about what other people think, not just about what I think.

Crossing the wire is about a 15 teen year boy named Rico Flores
Rico family is very poor. Rico's best friend is Victor. Rico and Victor is trying to cross the boarder to help out their family out. because Rico had work for victor's dad corn business but Rico did't make much because USA sell their corn for cheaper than in mexico. the place is taking in the boarder between Mexico and the united states. I think the theme is that you should never give up no matter how many time your tries you did to accomplish your goal. the problem in the story is that Victor Crosses the boarder and gets on a train then a board patrol and thinks he someone else and tries to arrest him.

Crossing the Wire is about a boy named Victor Flores who hears about his friend, Rico, who is planning to cross the border. Rico's older brother had sent him money from the US($1500), so he was going to give it to the coyotes to take him across. Victor's family is very poor, and works in Rico's dad's cornfield. Rico tells Victor to tell his parents that he is leaving. After Rico leaves, Victor thinks that he could try crossing the wire without money. He thinks that if he makes it, he could really help out his family by sending them some money. This is the significant choice that I think Victor made. Even without money, he decided to try and get across just for his family. This impacted mostly Victor's family, because after he got across he was able to get work and send some valuable money home to his family. I agree with the choice that he made. If I were in his situation, I wouldn't go without a reliable source for help. I think it was a really risky choice. His choice shows who I am because he is a very brave boy, and I admit that I would be really scared. That aside, I would still try to do what he did if my family was in that bad shape.

Cassia is so happy that she got matched with her best friend Xander until Cassia looks at the microcard that shows information about Xander. The person on the screen is Xander but a split second later the screen goes black, and suddenly, there is a different picture. It wasn’t Xander but Ky. From this moment on, everything changes. Cassia becomes worried because she knows that the Society never makes mistakes. She now has to choose between two people that she both really cares about and if she will let the Society continue controlling her life.
Cassia soon realizes who she truly loves and her choice becomes more dangerous for both her and Ky. Cassia’s and Ky’s relationship is affecting Xander. He realizes how close Ky and Cassia are becoming and slowly becomes jealous because he also had feelings towards Cassia. Their love is becoming more and more dangerous as they know secrets that they shouldn’t.
I do agree with Cassia’s choice because even though we have to follow the rules, it is not right when others choose for you, in this case who you love is not meant to be chosen by others but is meant to be chosen by how you feel for that person.
My opinion of the character shows who I am because I won’t ever let anyone choose something this important for me because it is my choice and my decision not anyone else's.

Kristi is Catherine's new neighbor and Catherine wants to be good friends since her best friend moved. Catherine doesn’t really tell the whole truth about David his disability. In her sketchbook, she drew a picture of Jason and Kristi was pressuring her to ask him to the dance. Catherine doesn’t make the best choices, like not telling Kristi about David’s and Jason. This choice of hers made Catherine, Kristi, and Jason confused. She did not end up asking Jason so he asked her and she denied things got personal. I do not agree with her decision because it seemed that Catherine was embarrassed and it made Jason feel ashamed of himself. A boy named Jack Osborne’s dad gets involved with some very dangerous people. Jack’s family is put into the Witness Security Program and everything is changed about them. They have new names, eye color, hometown and hair color. Everything about Jack’s family is a lie.
Jacks major choice is when he chose to send June Saunders the postcard. I think this is the biggest choice he made because if he hadn’t sent that postcard then Alonzo and his men wouldn’t have found out where Jack’s family was living. This is also the biggest choice because it put many people in danger like Peter Short, Jack’s family, Sam and Catalin.
I do not agree with Jack’s choice because it put a lot of people in danger. Really, if Jack just had some common sense, everything would’ve been alright.
My opinion shows that I am very observant and if I was in the situation that Jack was in, I would not contact anyone that I knew previously.

Cassia Reyes and her family live in a society where all the rules, regulations, and daily plans for them and they don’t get to choose. Some of the things are daily thing, but, the officials who are the caretakers of you, pick who you marry! Can you believe that, I mean imagine you going up on a screen and seeing the person your going to marry and you never get to meet them until you are ready to marry because they are in different regions than you. Cassia is adjusted to that, but, something changes her mind about the officials telling them what to do and runs their whole life.P.S. [ they pick when you die!!!!] Cassia made a big choice and a big mistake, but kept it a big secret. She got a microcard of the person she was going to marry, but all the sudden another boy popped up and she knew him from her childhood. She had to find out why before her best friend/husband who she has know for a long time finds out about the feelings and regulations she crossed to get the aberration who is not supposed to be married and he popped on her screen and madly fell in love with him. She had to tell her best friend/ soon to be husband what she was feeling before it got too complicated and when she told him he didn’t like it because he loved her!!! Will this affect our friendship and marriage she thought.? I agreed with Cassia because even though she was marrying her best friend who she loved and know forever she felt bad for Ky Markham who is the aberration and had more in common with him than Xander. Cassia loved Ky because also he was different than anyone she knew. Another reason why I agreed was because Cassia followed her heart and didn’t take the path where all the officials made the rules. I agree with Cassia because if I were her I would have chosen my own path and followed my own heart to find who I really am instead of my life being planned out till I die and my day to die and that is what Cassia Reyes did.

Zach's Lie
I read Zach's lie by Roland Smith. It was about a boy name Jack Osbourne who goes through the witness protection program with his mom and sister because his dad smuggled illegal drugs across the border. The family moves to Elko, Nevada hoping to start a new life. Zach makes a friend, a boy named Darrel and he winds up with a girlfriend, Catalin, but in school you makes some enemies too and Zach's is a troubled boy named Peter. All goes smoothly until Peter finds Zach's journal, which contains all the information about their old life. Peter threatens Zach to break up with Catalin otherwise he will spill the beans about his identity. Later that night Peter spots Zach and Catalin holding hands and figuered Zach didn't go through with the deal. Peter goes to Zach's dads x-boss, Alanzo, and tells him about Zach and how he's really Jack and all that kind of vital info.
I do not agree with Zach he should of broke up with Catalin as soon as possible not wait around all night. He put her life and many others lives in danger by not breaking up with her, even if it cost a big price because now he will have to leave and never see her again.
My opinion of his choice shows that if I was in his position I would of broken up with her because I am very brave.

Cassia is in a "perfect" world where everything is decided by the Society. The people make no decisions for themselves because the Society decides who they marry, where they live, and when they die. When Cassia is seventeen she reaches the age to be matched, everything is carefully thought about when choosing a match for someone. When a glitch in the supposedly perfect system appears, it makes Cassia think that the society might not be so perfect after all. She meets Ky, an aberration, that she starts to develop feelings for, even though she has been matched with her best friend, Xander. She soon decides she wants to make her own choices for what she can and can't do. Cassia eventually ends up getting separated from Ky.

The main character in Matched, Cassia Reyes, lives in The Society. The Society decides what you eat, where you work, and even when you die! The most important, The Society NEVER makes MISTAKES!
Cassia Reyes has come to face her Matching Banquet. She stands up when her name was called, and sees only a black screen. With surprise she finds her match to be in the same room as her. Xander, her best friend. Cassia receives her very own microcard. When she looks at it again, she sees a different boy. Not Xander, but she knows this one as well. It Ky. A boy she knew from the surroundings. With lots of debating she discover that her heart is filled with Ky.
I agree with Cassia because she followed what her heart said, and was happy with her decision. Though she knows that her decision can bring loads of trouble, Cassia decides to stand up for her love and support her decision fully.
My opinion on Cassia's decision shows that I believe that your heart knows what is the best for you. I feel that if I was in Cassia's place I would have done the same thing.

Liying can be hard and Zach had to be careful for what he had or might say. Zach wanted to stay alive and wanted to protect his family, he had no other choices. I think his choice was right because if he told everyone the truth he would be in more trouble than he bargained for. Zach wanted to live 1 life not two and if he told he would have to live a third life, his family had a lot to look forward too in their new lives so why mess it up, Zach’s mom was opening a bookstore, and his sister was going to star in her schools musical, even Zach had a job, friends, and a girl friend of that matter. Rules by Cynthia Lord
This summer I read the book Rules by Cynthia Lord. It was a very fascinating book about a 12 year old girl named Catherine and her life with her younger brother named David, who has autism. She loves David to death but is also very embarrassed of him. And a lot of times Catherine feels much neglected by her parents because of David having autism. Catherine has tried to help David, though, always keeping a journal with rules in it for David to help him. Most of the rules are common sense for the rest of us but for David it is hard to process.
Catherine meets the new neighbors who have a girl Catherine’s age, Kristi. Kristi, though, becomes much better friends with a boy who happens to be a kid who bullies David and she doesn't want to tell Kristi the truth about David and wants to hide him from her. Then Catherine meets a boy named Jason, at one of David’s appointments, who cannot speak and he’s also in a wheel chair. She makes cards for him and try’s to become his friend. But now Catherine doesn't know who to go and become friends with.
Catherine goes with Jason. Now she doesn't need to hide David from Kristi and can make Jason feel happy and special. And she can feel more relaxed and she can be more herself around Jason.
I agree with the choice that Catherine made. I think it was the right choice for both her and her brother. Her choice, also, made her happy to be friends with Jason instead of Kristi.
Catherine shows who I am in a way because I try to choose who my good friends are very wisely. I try to become friends with the very friendly and kind people.

The one very important choice that Catherine had to make was at a dance party. She was with Jason and she didn't know whether she should dance with him or not. You see Jason is in a wheel chair. She thought hard and Catherine decided to danced with Jason. She didn't want to make him feel bad. This choice impacted everyone around her, you don't see someone dancing with someone else in a wheel chair every day. I agree with my character's choice because I would have done the same thing. That shows that I am a kind person and think of others.

Cassia is basically owned by the officials. He best friend is there Emma aka em. When the matching screen turns on she finds herself matched with her lifelong best friend Xander. Xander is Cassia's neighbor and best friend. She received a micro card of her match (even though she knows Xander inside and out). Later when she was alone she decided to look at the micro card of Xander. She suddenly realizes Xander does not appear on the screen but Ky's face appears. Cassia knows Ky from the centers every friday. She starts to deeply fall in love with Ky and see's that he is the on for her. The society never makes mistakes! Cassia starts having a little crush affair going on with Ky. But Ky secretly wanted Cassia as well. Later on in the story Xander finds out and so does the Officials. The Society sends Ky away to an Outer Province. Xander helps Cassia to go find Ky. Cassia got sent out to the Outer Provinces to also go work in the farmlands with her family as well. In the end of the whole thing Cassia follows her feelings about love and goes for Ky. Of course Xander wasn't to thrilled about that but he helps her anyway because thats what true friends are for.
I dont agree with Cassia's decision because Xander was her best friend and probably the most compatible boy she could've got matched with but she followed her heart and that's what love is about right?
My choice shows that I am caring about loved ones and friends, and that I would go for the boy who cares the most for you and that would be the perfect relationship. I mean who would want a one way love? NO ONE! It takes two people to commit to a relationship and that's the way it should be.

Summary: The book Zach's Lie is about a boy named Jack Osborne. Jack Osborne lives with his sister Joanne and his mom. His father is in jail right now because he went around the world selling drugs.
One night, 3 guys wearing black masks pulled Jack, Joanne and their mother out of bed. They tied them up with rope. The guys threatened them and said that if they spoke with the police they would die.
The FBI was aware of the situation and the danger. So they had the family go into the Witness Protection Program. Being part of this meant that they had to change their names, their home, their entire identity.
Now the family lives in Elko, Nevada. Their last name is Granger and Jack's new first name is Zack. So with Zach moving he is starting at a new school. He meets a nice girl named Catalin, a very nice custodian named Sam, and a bully
One day at school the bully finds Zach's journal that had all of his personal information, like his real life/identity. The bully shares that information with a lot of people and then the bad guys who broke into Zach's house found out and almost killed his family. But, Sam cared about Zach/jack so he got him out of that mess and the bad guys went to jail.
Significant choice: Zach made a good choice by trusting sam and making a good relationship with him. That was a good choice because if Zach really never knew Sam then Zach and his family could be dead now.
I agree with this choice because you should always give everyone a chance to actually prove who they are and who they are in that moment.

The book that I read over the summer was Crossing the Wire, by: Will Hobbs. The book is about a fourteen year old boy named Victor Flores, and his very desperate family. Where Victor lives, the prices of the corn that is sold is at an all time low. Victor’s job is to sell corn, but it is almost useless, because the payment is very poor. The prices are so low that his whole family becomes in great danger. With a struggling family, Victor decides to try to cross the Mexican border to get to the United States so he can find a profitable job, and send some of the money back to his family so they can survive. Without any backup money to get smuggled across the border, Victor has to find a way to get across the line on his own. He finds a couple of trustworthy companions on the way, and they help him get part of the way through. Victor does end up making it to Washington with a lot of danger in his path, but he does manage to get money sent home to his family in time.
ReplyDeleteThe choice that Victor made was to cross the border into the United States in order to make more money than he did at home. His choice impacted his whole family greatly. Instead of Victor not making it and dying before he could cross the border, Victor crossed the border with all of his might. He ended up making a lot of money, his family was saved, and they didn’t suffer. I agree with the choice Victor made, because if he never had the courage to make it to the US, his whole family would have lost everything and died. I can relate to Victor’s determination and courage because if my family was struggling, I know that I would stop at nothing to stop and help them and protect them in any way that I can. I respect Victor’s bravery, and I hope to be as lucky as he was.

A girl is best friends and when she's at the right age she is given her "Match" or partner for life. It's rare that your matched with somebody in your area. But she is given her best friend which makes her happy. But when she goes home and looks at the chip it starts out as her best friend but is changed to a new kid who is unable to be matched. Her chip is corrected by the government but then the new kid is taken away. She goes on a rescue mission with her best friend to rescue him. She then falls in love with both, but must choose one so she chooses the new kid.
She made a significant choice by deciding to follow the new kid instead of her best friend. It most likely impacted her best friend, after knowing she didn't feel the same way. I agree with her choice because the best friend get's along well with everyone and always has a chance to fall in love once more. But the new kid doesn't and the same with the girl. They both aren't popular and even though she loves him but he doesn't love her I feel like in the next book he will fall in love. It show's who I am because I believe that people can fall in love and plus that a love triangle is so much fun.

Cassia made an important decision on whether or not she could go against everything she was taught to believe in and rebel against the society to follow her heart.
Cassia had chose Ky which meant that she would have to go against the society. That also meant that Xander was left heartbroken yet still had to keep secrets from the society about Cassia and Ky.
I agree with Cassia's choice. I believed she should have followed her heart. The society had many flaws and secrets that made it imperfect. The society actually was very cruel and separated people status and everybody was treated much differently.
My opinion about Cassia's decision shows that I think people should always follow what is to to their heart.

This book is about a heroic fifteen-year-old named Victor Flores. His goal: to "cross the wire". As he goes to cross the wire to the United States, he meets danger, like getting robbed, or sent to jail. He also meets a friend, and meets his best friend Rico on the way. Choice: Crossed the wire so he can make money.
Impact: Greatly succeeded. He was able to send money to his family at Mexico, because he was capable of getting a job, and getting help on the way as well.
I agree with the choice, because helping is caring, and doing something nice and helping for others is very kind of to do and very nice of to do too. Even I would help my family if they got in trouble, and for myself and family I would do anything to get them back right in to their right places. :)

Jack Osborne is just an average middle school kid when he, his sister and his mom are attacked late one night. It turns out Jack's father has been helping a drug dealer named Alonzo Aznar sell drugs illegally. Jack’s father has recently been put to jail because of the drug dealing and Alonzo attacked Jack to make sure Jack’s father does not rat him out. To prevent any further harassments, the police put the Osbornes(excluding their father) into a Witness Protection Program. The Osbornes have to change their identities, their looks, and their names. Jack soon becomes Zach. The police secretly transport them to a rural town called Elko, in Nevada. Almost right away, Zach makes friends with his school custodian, a shady character who is unlike any other janitor. Zach also becomes close to a girl named Catalin. It is not long before Alonzo figures out where the Osbornes have run off to. Zach, with the help of Sam, has to try and stop Alonzo from killing him and his family.
The significant choice of this book was Zach’s dad choosing to partner up with Alonzo to sell drugs. This was not a smart move because not only does it affect Zach’s dad, but it puts the rest of the family at risk too. This choice impacts a lot of people in this book. First of all it affects the whole Osborne family. Zach’s dad went to jail and Zach, his sister, and his mom had to get new identities. It also affected Alonzo because even though he was getting a lot of help from Zach’s dad, it was also putting him at great risk in case anything like what happened in the book came up. It also affects Peter in a way because before Zach came along, Peter almost had a thing going on with Catalin. But when Zach came, Catalin fell for Zach , which made Peter start to resent Zach. If Peter did not resent Zach, then he would not have gotten involved with Alonzo. If Peter had not gotten involved with Alonzo, no one would have been in danger. I did not agree with Zach’s dad’s choice because it is never a good idea to have any connection to drugs, whether you are selling them, or using them. It does not matter how much money it pays, it will always come back to bite you, and you will regret it. I think Zach’s dad was never a bad person. He just needed money and he went a little overboard. This choice shows that I am against any use of drugs and that I want this world to be clean.

Catherine made a very tough choice of either going to Jason's birthday party or going to a dance with Kristi. She chose to do both in the same day,It was very hectic at first but turned out all good in the end.

The Significant choice that Victor makes is to travel up to the U.S. and try to find work and give the money to his family. This choice impacts his family and friends because they won't be able to see Victor or Rico that much. I would agree on this choice that Victor and Rico made because if my family was low on money, I would try to help them in anyway. He as bravery and courage. I would like to be like that if this situation ever happens to me.

Zach's Lie by: Ronald Smith
Zach is a seemingly ordinary teenager. He had friends, a girlfriend, a wannabe sister, and a bookstore owner for a mother. But he is not who he says he is.He is really Jack Osborne, a average boy whose dad found himself caught in a circle of illegal drug dealing hoodlums. This poor choice made by his father screwed up his family's life. Jack, his sister, and his mother were forced into the Witness Security Program. They moved, changed their names, and their appearances. It turned Jacks whole world upside down.
During this whole experience, Zach/Jack kept a journal with everything in it. He also kept his fathers journal. It was strictly for his eyes only and had names, pictures, drawings, and all this evidence about his father's case in it. But the bad choice Jack made was keeping the journals. This choice ultimately led to the discovery of his true identity.
This impacted the story immensely because if the information Jack has falls into the wrong hands, it could be fatal.
I most certainly DO NOT agree with his choice! Even though it seemed like a good idea to keep it at the time, it pretty much ruined his chance to keep the new life he had.
My opinion about his choice proves that I like to think things thoroughly before making a gigantic choice like that. I would have done that totally different.

This book is about how a girl named Cassia who is matched with a boy named Xander. The next day, Cassia opens her micro card with all of Xander's information and another boy she knows, Ky, appears on the micro card. The officials told her that it was a mistake that Ky appeared on the micro card but along the way, She gets partnered with Ky for everything and falls in love with him. Also, Cassia had a test for a job and with that test, she sent Ky to another providence. At the end, the officials told Cassia that she was part of an experiment to see if someone,Ky, who was different could fall in love with Someone,Cassia who is in the matching pool. Later,Cassia's mom found out to much about weird crops that are growing so Cassia and her family got moved to another providence and Cassia is trying to find where Ky went. Cassia’s big choice was to send Ky off to another providence so he can have a better life. The impact of Cassia’s choice made Ky maybe go to a worst life. I don’t agree with Cassia’s choice because if I love someone and I see how life is and if it seems pretty good, I would not send him off if life is already good. My choice that I just said shows that I am the kind of person who is a deep thinker because I would really think that he would not want to go back to the place that he moved from.

Over the summer I read the book Matched by Ally Condie. This story takes place in the future were the 'Society' basically told you what to do and they kinda controlled your life like when you eat what you eat what your hobbies are and the most important one which the whole story is basically abot is who your match will be or who you will be marrying. Cassia is matched with a guy named Xander she is also given a micro card which tells you everything about your match in cassia's case it's about xander. When cassia opens her micro card she sees that Ky a guy she knows shows up in the micro card and she obviously very curious so she asks the officials and they said that it was a mistake that Ky came up in her micro card. Later on cassia falls in love with him. At the end she finds out that it was all a test to see if Ky could fall in love with anyone. Later on cassia's family needed to move to another providence.Cassias big choice was to send Ky to another providence to have a better life. I agree with Cassia to send Ky to another providence because if you love someone that much i think that you should try to give them a better life. I am a very kind and loving person and i would try to do whats best fo someone I love.

Later the men that found him before found him again now with a tip from a local bully, found out about Zach/jack and with the help of Sam Zach barely gets out and captures him. This all happened because he left his backpack out with EVERYTHING about him. This is a TERRIBLE MOVE on his part.
First off keeping a backpack full of info about who he is I think was a bad idea.
Doing this lead to him, his family, and friends in terrible danger. Luckily, Sam saved him by a hair.
Like I previously mentioned I think his decision was a bad one. If he had never have done this he could have just lived the life he wanted to.
Zach shows that he can stand up for himself but under pressure, he can panic. when the situation comes to life or death though he can pull through.

ReplyDeleteThe book I read over the summer was Matched by Ally Condie. Matched is about a girl named Cassia who grows up in a world where you have no choice over what you do. No choice whatsoever, from what you ate, to what you hobbies are, and they even choose who you are marrying. At first, she is just fine with that, but on the day she gets Matched, which is where the Society decides who you will marry, she gets her best friend, Xander. They give you this micro card to use to learn everything you need know about your Match. And when she puts in the micro card, she sees two faces. One is Xander, the other is Ky, one of those people you vaguely remember from somewhere but don’t remember where. She gets approached by the Officials about it, but ignores their warnings and ends up falling for Ky And now she has her doubts on the “perfect little society” they have and must deal with loving someone else while pretending to love Xander and hiding her doubts from the Oficials, who are everywhere. The significant choice Cassia made in the book was to follow her heart and not let a government rule her life. And because of the choices she made, Cassia and her family are moved to the Outer Provinces in their country, or in other words, technically ruined their lives. I agree with her choice, but she could have done it a bit differently, if she did do it a bit differently, Cassia’s life might not have gotten so mixed up. I think Cassia is a strong-willed girl who is trying to figure out her feeling and life while dealing with everyone and everything that is happening. The same thing happens to me a lot, with my sports and school, I don’t have much time to sit down and think, so I can get where she comes from when she wants those moments to just sit down, or hike and just relax. She is also very considerate to other people’s feelings and is in no way selfish for any extended amount of time, and I would like to have a bit more of that trait in my personality than there is already.

Zach’s Lie by: Roland Smith
Jack Osborne’s life changes completely when men in black come to his house and holds them hostage. The men says that they are related to his father and what his job was. Now being pursued Jack Osborne (now Zach) is now under Witness Protection and is sent to Elko, Nevada, where he tries to start a new life. The leader of the group is Alonzo and he teams up with a janitor which was a former spy to set a trap to catch them. In the end he catches them but he still has to go to a new city and live a new life.
Jack Osborne’s significant choice was that he tried to deal with everything himself so nobody else would get involved. This choice influenced the janitor/former spy to help him catch the bad guys. I would partially agree to what Jack did, I would have tried to keep people out of my own business however I would still need help because not everything can be done by yourself. Being able to look at what Jack did and criticize him shows that I try to learn from mistakes and care for others.

Crossing The Wire: by Will Hobbs
Victor Flores, a young fifteen year old village boy see's that his family is in need in Mexico for food, money and a good place to rest their head. Victor knows that his uncle is living in Arizona partially close to Victor's location and Victor finds out that his uncle is making a very good amount of money in El-Norte (North America), so Victor decides to help his family and went to find his uncle by risking his life in some opportunities and obstacles. Victor made a very thrilling, but heart pounding choice to go on fast moving cargo vehicles and trying to escape deadly border patrol and the Mexican army, just to get across the Mexican/American border. In some part of the story almost reaching the border with his trusted friend Rico Rivera Victor immediately spots the Mexican Army almost looking like they were waiting for Victor and his friend. Almost catching Rico Victor worries not about himself, but for Rico.
As if it were a miracle Victor and Rico still manage to get to Arizona and find Victor's uncle to work for and Victor was able to send money to his family to survive with shelter and food, water and supplies. I do not agree with the choice in fact risking your life and your friend's as well to provide money with worrying about the Mexican Army and border Patrol at hand ready to arrest any who come near the border between Mexico and the United States. Surely there must be another solution. though I was able to look back at all of Victor's mishaps I was able to recognize how I would find a solution to help my family and close friends when in need, even in dramatic situations.

Crossing the Wire is about a 15 year old boy named Victor Flores. Due to falling crop prices he is attempting to cross the wire from Mexico to America to get a job and make money for his family so they can survive during the winter. Victor must survive as he stows away on trucks, jumps trains and hikes miles through melting deserts and freezing mountains. The significant choice Victor made in the book were making the decision to cross the wire and trying to survive while getting to his destination. His choices impacted his family because they would never see him again in exchange for larger amounts of money that he would send to them. I agree with his choice because if my family was in great need of money I would do everything I could to help find ways to help. My opinion of Victor is that he is grateful for his family and puts the needs of others first. I am similar to Victor in that I also put others needs in front of mine and go out of my way to help even when I am not asked or expected to do anything.

Zach's Lie by Roland Smith
It is about this kid, named Jack, who is now in a situation that's big, that he has to get used to. His father has been involved with selling drugs, and now Jack, his mother, and sister has to move somewhere else so the enemies around them won't find them. Jack now has a different identity, including his mother and sister. "Zach" now has a different life, and has to get used to it. But then there's a problem where the enemies are searching for them, and later finding clues, since the father is in jail because of his mishap, the enemies can get clues to find the family. Zach has to now save his family, and help them and the friends he meet that he has to protect now. In his life that he has now, his friends now in his new life is a female friend, and what he thought was a janitor, but is a custodian. Now they are in trouble too, and Zach needs to beat the bad guys. The bad guys are giving him choices and so, and the people around helps him too, and he helps his friends and family. Now the police has come to get them, and they are now arrested. But Zach must have a new life again, for what has occurred that he must not keep the life. He has a new life now, different name, his family too, and left his friends behind. But now, his father is out of jail, with them, with a different identity. I have agreed this choice that he went with a different life because you never know, the bad guys might find him again. Now they must be careful about the family, and that their identities before, their life, will disappear forever and ever infinity. Zach may be like me because he is a brave person, and stands up for himself, and always looks around for clues, and helps his friends and family. This book was great, and I really loved it.

I agree with the article, “No more curtain calls for elephants”, because elephants deserve the freedom they have always had. While being held captive, they were chained to the zoo barns at night, and standing on hard surfaces, hurting their feet because of their weight. This will eventually lead to arthritis, which causes cracked toenails and sore feet. Keepers of these elephants will even use weapons on these animals, forcing them to do what they want. In the present, most of these things were improved, and elephants live better lives. But even they improved, the elephants are still not in their natural habitat, which they would enjoy much more. Elephants in the wild are also being held captive and killed for entertainment, and money from their ivory tusks. Instead of taking these massive animals into small cages, which will eventually kill the elephant, people could keep up security cameras and guards around the area to make sure no poachers enter an elephant sanctuary. In conclusion, I think elephants should be free and not disturbed by people.

The article that convinced me the most was, why elephants need circuses and zoos. This article convinced me the most because elephants are living things also they should not be whipped and/or forced. Think about it that would hurt. Also another good reason is at a zoo or circus they bring food and attention to them. They don't have to find food on their own. And maybe die from starvation. Most animals and people are put to work. It's ok if they work but people should not push the limit of how much they work. Yes, it is good to have elephants in the zoo because people can study them and learn about and maybe from them. Also how elephants live

The artlice that conviced me was "No more curtain calls for elephants". I think this because the elephants should have been getting freedom for as long as they live. They were getting in zoo barns and they had to stand on the hard concrete floor. That is bad for their feet because they are holding their on weight which is 8,000 to 10,000 pounds! Because of this the elephants will get a disease called arthritis where the toenails are craked and the feet are sore. The zookeepers are also controling them with something called a bullhook. A bullhook is a stick with a sharp hook at the end. Now the living environment for the elephants are imporved but it could get better. They are getting killed for entertainment and circuses too. Overall, I think that elepahnts should be left alone and should have freedom.

The article that convinced me most was the the article that said elephants need zoos and circuses because I see what thety are saying comletely. I think i like this one more because even though elephants natural habitat is in the wild, they are more taken care of at a zoo. In the wild elephants have a much higher risk of dying because of prediters. In a zoo, zookeepers make sure they are well fed and are as healthy as can be. in the article it did say that they use a bullhook if they are bad. It's not even really used for that, it's to diciplin them. You could also think about it like this. The bullhook is probobly the most harmless thing to do with them. It's probobly like getting a shot at the doctor, because in the wild, they could be slautered! In the zoo, they get to live a fun and healthy life. They also get to interact. If I were an elepant I would want that service all day every day! Elephants should be in zoo's so they can be protected.

ReplyDeleteI think elephants need to be in zoos and circuses. although they were treated poorly those times have passed. They would be much better off in a zoo then in the wild. People need to wake up and see that there is more human interaction in the wild. plus they are able to be killed by poachers there. if they are in a zoo they could be pampered and live a healthy life. they could also find all the resources they need in their zoo. so I have proven that they are far better off in a zoo then in the wild. This concludes and proves my idea about elephants in the zoo or wild.

The claim that convinces me the most is the claim about “No More Curtain Calls for Elephant” were in L.A. is that they plan on banning elephants from performing. The article even said that the Ringling Bros. “still chains it’s elephants in trains to transport them and uses bullhooks to manage them” which is not just bad for the elephants but adds on to the fact that in zoos they are already getting injuries on their feet but as well to, getting prodded and poked by bullhooks. Bullhooks are poles with one dull side and one hook on the other. Zoos have been forcing elephants to stay cooped up in tiny pens as well as to stand on concrete causing . The article from before says that “the consequences of that confinement was a painful middle age, marked by arthritis, cracked toenails, and sore feet.” All of these make it hard on the elephants to stay calm and live in zoos peacefully. While out in the wild they have a higher chance despite the poachers, villages in their migration route. Humans have built villages in the middle of the elephants migration route often causing “human-elephant conflict sometimes leads to deaths-- of both elephants and humans.”

The claim that convinces me is that Elephants should be in zoos and shows because they would have a better life then they would in the wild, because as the second article said it could take a month or two to even find water in the wild, but if the Elephants were a part of the shows and the zoo they would get water basically when they want some, or when the zookeeper or show keeper would notice they are really sweaty and need water. Also it could be a while in the wild to find food , but if they were in a show or a zoo they could get food three times a day and not starve to death in the wild.

The claim which I could connect to the most is ‘“no more curtain calls for elephants.”I agree with this article because it shows that in the zoo and circuses, animals are not as happy as they look when they are there.According to the article,”when they aren’t on display, they are chained in zoo barns standing on hard surfaces which leads to arthritis, cracked to nails, and sore feet”. So this shows that elephants in pain in captivity. Also, when the animal is not behaving well or is not listening to orders keepers use a “bullhook, which is a tool that has one sharp end and one blunt end. Keepers use these as weapons not tools on the animals. It says in the article, they poke, prod or strike the animal with either side. This treatment is unfair, harsh, and unjust.
The opposing article does not make as strong points as this one. Even though they claim that elephant benefit from being in captivity because they are safe from danger, elephants should be living free and in the wild because that’s how nature set them out to be. I think they have the skill to survive in the wild as long as humans don’t hunt them . There should be laws to protect elephants from being hunted.
I think the elephants should not be held in circuses and other acts. Elephants toe nails rot and feet get sores and also tend to die early. Also they are other animals in the act that are more interesting. Elephants need to be free and in the sahara. Also being in a train for days standing in a little box is torture. In the book it also says that they tame them not gently but by metal and harsh pointy tips on the metal. I think if they continue keeping elephants they will start losing population. But it is amusing and fun to watch but imagine you having to go through this.

Matched by Ally Condie is about a society that has a lot of rules. The people who live there don’t get to make their own decisions, they have to wear the same clothes, eat whatever the officials tell them to eat, do they job that they are assigned to do, and be matched with another person or be single. Cassia who gets matched with her best friend, Xander is thrilled but when she gets home to watch his profile another boy shows up on the screen, Ky. Overtime Cassia starts to fall for Ky and Ky starts to fall for Cassia. She is torn between Xander and Ky. Meanwhile the society are having problems with the surrounding provinces rebelling against them. The officials who run the town are not happy with Cassia liking someone else then her match so they send Ky away to fight as a soldier and Cassia into the farm lands. The significant choice that Cassia had to make was between Ky and Xander. By falling in love with Ky he is sent to go fight in the army because he is not supposed to be matched and Xander gets his feelings hurt because he liked Cassia and she did not feel 100% the same way. I agree with Cassia’s decision to be more in love with Ky than Xander because even though she is breaking the rules and making everyone elses life harder she should do what she believes is right and you can't control who you fall in love with. Cassia’s choice shows who I am because she went for what is right no matter what the officials told her.

I believe that elephants should be in zoos and circuses because, their land is disappearing. For example, the article Why elephants need circuses and zoos “...human-elephant conflict sometimes leads to death -- of both elephants and humans.” Most calves can’t really survive without humans. Elephants are not taught by force but are taught by treats and love.

The claim I think the best claim is the one from why elephants need circuses and zoos. For example in the text why elephants need circuses and zoos it states that houses and buildings block the historic migration routes and starts human-elephant conflicts. This means that elephants will get hurt if they aren't in zoos. Another example is that elephants aren't taught by the bull hook they are taught in areas where humans don't share the same space as the elephants

ReplyDeleteThe article called "No More Curtain For Elephants" convinced me the most. I think elephants should be in the wild. The article is right if elephants are in zoos and not in the wild, then they are most likely to be harmed with harsh tools. They also can never provide the exact habitat for an elephant. In the end you should leave elephants in the wild. If you think people should look at real elephants than can go to areas were elephants roam without disturbing them. Finally this is why the article "No More Curtain For Elephants" convinced me the most.

NEW POST 9/9/13
The book that I read over the summer was Crossing the Wire, by Will Hobbs.
The choice that Victor made was to cross the border into the United States in order to make more money than he did at home. I respect Victor’s bravery, and I hope that I could be just like him if I was ever trying to support my whole family.

Katherine has a younger brother, named David, who has autism and she gets a new friend next door. Catherine wants to be friends with the neighbor but her brother might ruin her chances. She then meets Jason, a kid at David’s classes. He is in a wheelchair and can’t talk, and uses cards to communicate. She then gets invited to a dance and is asked to bring Jason with. She says she’ll think about it and then goes to the dance with Jason. After the dance she realizes that nothing’s really normal.
A choice she made was going to the dance, if she said yes the story would end up the way it did, but saying no could make the story a lot different. I agree to the yes because then she could just have fun. When she makes this choice, she realizes that nothing’s normal. Nobody is normal, not me, not anybody. In my life I will remember that nothing is normal, like if someone is bullying another person because they’re weird, then the bully should think about the flaws in their life and how they are different than everyone else, and to accept the differences in everybody that makes us unique.

Zach’s Lie
Roland Smith
The author of Zach’s lie is Roland Smith. In zach’s lie Zach’ s dad is a drug dealer and there was this man alzano alzner and his crew who wanted zach’s father dead. The main reason is that zach's dad did not pay alzener for drugs, so witness protection was helping keeping zach’s family saf. They all had to change their names so people can't track them down. Zachs real name is jack. Zacks family had to move and zach got what we would say a fresh start. Zach and his sister wanda did. Wanda got the role in a musical and Zach met some new friends on the way. just when you thought zach was doing good he got into a fight with a kid at school with a kid named peter.Peter is a bully who picks on new kids ,but when peter and Zach got into a fight Peter learned his lesson. Zach made friend with the janitor at his school the janitors name was sam. Zach really enjoyed the company of sam zach felt like he could talk to sam about what can be happening in his life.
Zachs choice was good because sam the janitor ends up helping Zach… I thought zach was smart to make friends with the janitor for many reasons such as when. I think Zach’s awareness is like mine I know when something bad is going to happen and I get away from the situation. In life you have to be careful what your actions are. I thought Zach’s lie was a great book and I recommend it to everyone.

Summary: I read the book, Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith, which is about Zach and his family having to go into the witness protection program, because Zach’s father is in jail. Zach’s father was working for drug dealers, but he didn’t know about it. Now his father in jail trying to help the police. Now, Zach and the rest of his family have to change their identities- their name, hair color, and even eye color. Zach meets Sam, a strange custodian at Zach’s school. When the drug dealers are aware of Zach’s family living in the city of Elko, they arrive there. Now, Zach’s decisions will determine the fates of his family and friends.
Significant choice: Zach’s most significant choice in the story is that he trusts Sam. Zach finds out that Sam used to be a spy and they have to stop 4 drug dealers who are armed alone.
How the significant choice affected others in the story: Zach’s choice led to Sam and him defeating all of the drug dealers and Zach's family and friends to being ok.
Explaining whether or not I agreed with this choice: If I were Zach, I would trust Sam. I would trust him, because he is an adult and a retired spy. Sam would obviously know what to do in that situation.
Explain how your opinion of the character and his/her choice shows who I am: This shows that I am the kind of person who would trust adults. I would tell everything if I was in a situation like that.
Overall, this book reminds everyone that you have to be careful.

His choice was he had to lie and hide from the police so he and his sister, may be safe.
people who were affected by his actions were his sister was forced into his lie, and he had made friends who believed his lie and had gotten close to him.
I didn't agree with Zach’s choice because if you are accused of a crime you should do the right thing, and try to get a lawyer.
My connection to this is that if you make a lie and you follow through it, it will rise, and then crash down on you when the truth comes out. I do lie let me tell you but I don't go that far with a lie.

Some of the things are daily thing, but, the officials who are the caretakers of you, pick who you marry! Can you believe that, I mean imagine you going up on a screen and seeing the person your going to marry and you never get to meet them until you are ready to marry, because they are in different regions than you. Second, Cassia made a big choice and a big mistake, but kept it a big secret. She got a microcard of the person she was going to marry, but all the sudden another boy popped up and she knew him from her childhood. She had to find out why, before her best friend/husband who she has known for a long time finds out about the feelings and regulations she crossed to get the aberration who is not supposed to be married and he popped on her screen and madly fell in love with him. She had to tell her best friend/ soon to be husband what she was feeling before it got too complicated and when she told him he didn’t like it because he loved her!!!
Last, but not least, will this affect our friendship and marriage she thought.? I agreed with Cassia because even though she was marrying her best friend who she loved and has known forever she felt bad for Ky Markham who is the aberration and had more in common with him than Xander. Cassia loved Ky because he was different than anyone she knew. Another reason why I agreed was because Cassia followed her heart and didn’t take the path where all the officials made the rules. I agree with Cassia because if I were her I would have chosen my own path and followed my own heart to find who I really am instead of my life being planned out till I die and that is what Cassia Reyes did.

ReplyDeleteThis summer I read Matched by Ally Condie. The book is about a community where everything is chosen for the people who live in it for example who they are going to marry and where they work and many other things. The main character Cassia was matched with 2 people Ky and Xander and she is forced to choose which one she wants to be matched to Xander the guy who she has known her whole life or Ky the new kid that she is starting to like and she doesnt know which one to choose.
At the end Ky gets taken away and she went to go find him with the help of Xander with some tablets to help her survive. Her choice of following Ky hurt Xander a little bit but he wanted her to do want she wanted to and to follow her heart.Because he truly cares about her.
I didn’t agree with her choice because I thought that Xander was a great guy and she knows him so well that I think that they practily meant for each other. Because they have known each other for so long and they care about each other so much.
It shows that I see the true value in someone and that i believe that if u know someone so well and you know there true values you should stay with them. Because you already know each other so well and you care so much about eachother I don’t get why you would leave someone who cares about you and always wants the best for you.

Now she has to go through pain in relationships, her grandfather’s death, along with who she should trust, and what secrets they hold. The Society is watching her carefully, watching her every move. Even her own match, Xander, has realized something was wrong with her, and could see her pain. Soon after, the government went full out, taking everyones artifacts, their only item that they have passed for generations, along with chopping down trees, ones that meant something to everyone. Cassia has realized that the Society knows everything, and even know that they started the trick, or lied to Cassia. But the society wants it to end. They take Ky away into the outer provinces, along with all their memories.
The significant choice that Cassia made was that she followed her own choice, and not the way she was supposed to go. The Society tricked Cassia into thinking there was a problem with her data chip. But she followed her own thoughts and her grandfather, who told her that that might have been meant for her, to marry Ky.
Also, this affects Ky, because he was never meant to love anyone, only to be single. But Cassia changed him. When Cassia came closer to him on the first day of hiking on the top of the little hill, Ky then had started to have feelings for her.
I do not think the Cassia made the right choice, because even though she did follow her own thoughts and wanted freedom, others might follow her example, leading to an overthrow of the Society and the downfall of the government. But I also think that the Society never should have tricked her, leading to the country’s own death.
My opinion of Cassia shows me that I care more about the entire government itself rather than personal feelings, only because it is for the betterment of everybody. I do not want one person to rule and overthrow their own country, unless the government is cruel in an unnecessary way.

Summary:
In Matched by Ally Condie, reader’s take a new perspective on how the truth can lead to unwanted actions.
The Society. They control everything in the people of the future's lives. Nobody living with the Society, or within the Society had any problems. Except the people living in the Outer Provinces: Anomalies .
Cassia Reyes (Main Character) had no problems with the Society. They kept everything in order and didn't make mistakes. Until the night of her Match ceremony. She got her perfect match, Xander Carrow, her best friend. Everything was looking up for her. That is until she looked at her card with Xander's information on it: another face popped up.
Ky Markham. The Aberration. She knew him as a child, and he was a quiet type of person. But still, after the incident, Cassia was drawn to him.
As she entered a world of secrets unknown to the common man, and a forbidden love, Cassia has to make a choice:
Follow her heart or stick to her boring, old life.
As Cassia chooses to learn more about the Old ways, she breaks all the rules and commits Infractions. But, she gets closer to Ky and revealing the hard truth.
As Cassia made all these "bad" choices, as viewed in the eyes if the Society, she affected all the loved ones around her. Xander became heartbroken as Cassia and her family moved to the Farms. Ky got taken away to fight as a soldier, because the Society predicted everything. As they say, the Society knows everything.
Cassia did the wrong thing. She put herself before others, and caused damage in her loved one’s life. My opinion of the character shows who I am because I will always do the right thing. If something were to happen to someone I love, I would immediately refrain from doing
that. Safety should be anyone’s number one priority.

Crossing The Wire By: Will Hobbs
Crossing the Wire is about a 15 year old boy named Victor Flores. Due to falling crop prices he is attempting to cross the wire from Mexico to America to get a job and make money for his family so they can survive during the winter. Victor must survive as he stows away on trucks, jumps trains and hikes miles through melting deserts and freezing mountains.
The significant choice Victor made in the book were making the decision to cross the wire and trying to survive while getting to his destination. His choices impacted his family because they would never see him again in exchange for larger amounts of money that he would send to them. I agree with his choice because if my family was in great need of money I would do everything I could to help find ways to make more of it.
My opinion of Victor is that he is grateful for his family and puts the needs of others first. I am similar to Victor in that I also put others needs in front of mine and go out of my way to help even when I am not asked or expected to do anything.

I read the book Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith. Zach's Lie was about a boy named Jack that went into the witness protection program because some bad men that ran a drug cartel wanted to find Jack’s family. Jack moved away from his old life straight into his new life as Zach. As Zach got to his new life he made the choice to adjust and to lie. Closer to the end of the story Zach starts to like his new life.
Moving to another life could be hard and confusing because of this Zach ended up closing out a lot of people by misleading them. Liying can be hard and Zach had to be careful for what he had or might say. Zach wanted to stay alive and wanted to protect his family, he had no other choices.
I think his choice was right because if he told everyone the truth he would be in more trouble than he bargained for. Zach wanted to live 1 life not two and if he told he would have to live a third life, his family had a lot to look forward too in their new lives so why mess it up, Zach’s mom was opening a bookstore, and his sister was going to star in her schools musical, even Zach had a job, friends, and a girl friend of that matter
I agree with his choice to lie because sometimes you need to lie when it is needed and it can be necessary when it comes to protection you need to do what you can to stay out of danger and thats what he was doing.
What this shows about me is that I am very careful about what I say when it comes to the truth. I’m not a liar but I can keep a secret.

The title of my book is called "Zach's lie" by Roland Smith. A brief summary of my book is that Jack Osborn's dad was working with a gang for him getting them some stuff and they will pay his bill's off. Jack's dad didn't get them what they want and now they are after his family. Now he is going into the Witness protection program. Now his whole family had to change their hair color, eye color, and even worse their own names. Instead of Jack Osborn its now Zach Granger. So they moved to Elko,Nevada and are living a wondrous and dangerous life. Closer to the end Zach is worry free and tries to start a new life.
A significant choice that zach had to do was to lie. It was for the good of his family. It was a good choice but, lying is bad.
I definitely agree with this choice because i would lie if it depends on the life of my family.
I would do anything to save anyone of my family members. Zach's decision shows me how much he care about his family.

Crossing the Wire
Crossing the Wire by Will Hobbs takes place in a small town in Mexico called Los Arboles. There, a boy named Victor Flores lives with his poor family. Victor’s friend Rico, tells Victor's family is very poor, and works in Rico's dad's cornfield. Rico tells Victor to tell his parents that he is leaving. When Victor tells Rico’s parents that he has left, they are devastated. After Rico leaves, Victor thinks about trying to get across. The only problem is that he doesn’t have any money. He still thinks he can make it if he can tag along with another group of people trying to get across. This is one of the significant choices that I think Victor made. Even without money, he decided to try and get across just for his family. This would impact mostly Victor's family, because if he does get across, he would be able to send them some money.
After that, he tries to get across again with the trains. Then he meets the man on the bus he was sitting next two, Miguel, and finds out that he is trying to get across the border too. He joins him in the journey. They get into the desert in Arizona, but Miguel gets caught by border patrol. Victor jumps into a guy’s van who is fishing, and he sits in the trunk until the guy drives back to his home. But he gets caught the man turns him into the border patrol. He gets sent back to Mexico again, but guess who he meets there? Rico! He can’t believe his eyes! They stay in that part of Mexico for a couple of days to make some money, and then Rico finds a group of coyotes that they can travel with. They give them the money and the group takes off. After a few days of traveling, and they are all in the Arizona desert, Rico hears the head coyote talking to the “bodyguard” of the group. He was telling him to kill Rico and Victor. After Rico hears that, he tells Victor that they have to get out of there. When everyone is sleeping, they escape. They decide to go through the mountains so that they won’t be spotted as easily. The bodyguard of the group though does catch up to them but they escape. They then ask a man to take them to Rico’s brother’s house. He does, but then they find out that Rico’s brother has moved. The man luckily comes back, and they tell him to take them to El Norte. From there they continue all the way up to Washington. Victor gets a job in the fields there, but Rico decides to go back to Mexico! Isn’t that crazy. Victor is forced with another decision of whether or not to stay in Washington or go back with Rico. He decides to stay in Washington, so he can send some money every month to his family. This is another good choice that he made because now he has a way to support his family. If I were in his position, I would have done the same thing because I would do anything to help my family when they are in bad shape.

This story is about a boy named Victor who lives in mexico and his family is running out of money when their crops are not selling.
Victor decides to try to find a job in the States so he can send the money to his family back in mexico. He first needs to find a way accross the border without getting caught by border patrol. So victor gets enough supplies and heads over to the border. At the border Victor try’s to get in with a “coyote” group to be smuggled across the border but he is faced with the problem of not having any money to pay the coyote.
Then, Victor try to cross on his own. On the way he meets a man named Miguel so they try to cross together but get caught in a drug smuggling group. So they have to carry some drugs and walk to where the drug dealers want the drugs. Victor and Miguel decide to escape so when the group is sleeping Victor and Miguel escape but are pursued by the drug dealers but Victor and Miguel escape when the drug dealers decide that they are not worth the chase.
Eventually after escaping border patrol a few times Victor makes it into the United States and goes to work in Oregon and send the money he earns to his family.
I think that Victors choices were important and correct because he tried to help the people he loves no matter what. I would do what I had to to help my family if they were in need and I would do it because my family is important to me.

Zach’s Lie
Blog Re-Write
The book Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith is a book with a lot of action. The book is about a boy and his family, and they are being stalked. The boy is taken to a secret service and they said that he and his family had to move and change their identity. Jack’s dad(Neil Osborne), worked as a commander for the Navy, and the bad guys are trying to hunt down Jack’s dad. Jack’s new name in the book is Zach, and his family relocates to Elko, Nevada where they thought they were safe.
After Zach’s family relocates to Nevada, they struggled to sleep and not think about what was happening at the time. In the story Zach showed a lot of fear when trying to be safe. I would have been really scared and nervous if my family and I were being stalked and we had to change our whole identity just to be safe. In the book it mentions the theme a lot, the theme of the book is family loyalty. friendship, and most of all, trust. All through the book Zach had to meet new people and trust the Witness Protection Program in order to be safe.
Roland Smith’s book tells us that when you don’t think anyone is watching, it is a possibility that somebody is watching, and that being safe is the most important thing to be happy.

This book is science-fiction because the setting is set in the future. This book is about how a girl named Cassia who is matched with a boy named Xander. The next day, Cassia opens her micro card with all of Xander's information on it and another boy that she knows, Ky, appears on the micro card. The officials told her that it was a mistake that Ky appeared on her micro card, but along the way, she gets partnered with Ky for everything and falls in love with him. The climax of this story happened when Cassia kissed Ky on the hill. Also, Cassia had a test for a job and with that test, she had to sort all kinds of people and one of those people were Ky. Cassia loved Ky so much that she sent Ky off to another providense so he can have a better life. Later, Cassia find out that she actually sent Ky off to go to war. At the end, the officials told Cassia that she was part of an experiment to see if someone, like Ky, who was different from everyone else (abbeition) could fall in love with someone, like Cassia, who is in the matching pool. Later, Cassia's mom found out to much about weird crops that are growing in other providences, so Cassia and her family got relocated to another providence and Cassia is trying to find where Ky went because she is in love with Ky.
Cassia’s big choice was to send Ky off to another providence so he can have a better life. The impact of Cassia’s choice made Ky go to a worst life. I don’t agree with Cassia’s choice because if I love someone and I see how life is and if it seems pretty good, I wouldn’t send him off if life is already good. My choice that I just said shows that I am the kind of person who is a deep thinker because I would really think that he would not want to go back to the place that he moved from. For example, if my friend was going to move, I would want them to stay where I llive because we would already have a good life. And she is a person who I would miss.

I read the book "Matched" by Allie Condie over the summer. This book was about a girl named Cassia. Where Cassia lives the society chooses everything for the citizens. When the society makes a choice, it is always supposed to be the right ones. Cassia believes this until she gets matched with her best friend Xander but a different face is on what is supposed to be Xander's micro-card. Cassia also knows this face too. He is one of Xander and Cassia's other friends. Ky. After this happens Cassia starts to pay more attention to Ky. When the two of them are in hiking class together, Cassia and Ky start to break the rules. Cassia and Ky start to fall in love. Cassia then decides she wants to be with Ky and not Xander.
The significant choice that Cassia makes is she follows her heart and love instead of obeying the society. She chooses Ky over Xander.
Cassia's decision affected Ky and Xander the most. It affected Ky, because when they fell in love they both started to share things that were against the law. This put both of them in danger. It affected Xander, because Cassia left him without her and even though she followed her heart, she did disobey the society.
I do not agree with Cassia's decision, because she did not obey the government. This could affect many people, because once somebody does it everyone else might do it too. This could cause serious problems in the society. Cassia also left her best friend hanging. To me that is not a good friendship.
This opinion shows who I am because I know that even though you might want something no matter how badly you may want it, not everything goes your way.

Matched by Ally Condie is about a girl, Cassia who goes to a banquet where she gets matched to a guy that the society picks for her. She gets matched with her best friend, Xander.
Before she leaves the banquet she receives a microcard. When Cassia gets home from the banquet she sees someone else on the microcard, Ky. Now Cassia is confused and doesn't know who she should choose from. Cassia has to make a decision within Ky and Xander. She can either go with her thoughts or follow the government.
When Cassia takes hiking classes she is paying more attention to Ky. Cassia was falling in love with him. So then Cassia makes the decision. She goes with her own thoughts and wants to live her life with Ky, the one that she is now in love with.
The decision that Cassia made affects Ky and Xander. This affects Ky because Cassia and Ky shared secrets that they weren't supposed to know. This also affects Xander because he did not do anything wrong to change Cassia’s mind and now he has no one to be matched with.
I don't agree with Cassia’s decision because she should have gone with the government rules.

The significant choice that Cassia makes is she follows her heart and love instead of obeying the society. She chooses Ky over Xander. This decision affected Ky and Xander. If that happened to me I would go with my heart too and not follow the government.
My opinion about Cassia tells me always trust yourself, whether its your heart or you gut. If Cassia chose Xander that would tell me that she would rather spend the rest of her life with Xander who she doesn’t love as much as Ky.

Most of the rules are common sense for the rest of us but for David it isn't.
Catherine meets the new neighbors who have a girl her age, Kristi. Although, she becomes much better friends with a boy who happens to be a kid who bullies David. Catherine doesn't want to tell Kristi the truth about David , she wants to hide him and his secret from Kristi. Then Catherine meets a boy named Jason, at one of David’s appointments, who cannot speak and he’s also in a wheelchair. She helps make cards for his machine that talks for him and try’s to become his friend. But now Catherine doesn't know who to go and become friends with.
Catherine goes with Jason. Now she doesn't need to hide David from Kristi and can be friends with Jason. She can feel more relaxed . Catherine can be more herself around Jason. I love the choice that Catherine made. I think it was the right choice for both her and her brother. Her choice, also, made her happy to be friends with Jason instead of Kristi. Catherine shows who I am in a way because I try to choose who my good friends are very wisely. I try to become friends with the very friendly and kind people.

The book I read over the summer was Matched by Ally Condie. In a place where the community controls your life, there is a girl named Cassie that has many decisions coming her way. She has a special day coming up, her banquet. On the day of her banquet she will get matched with the boy she will spend the rest of her life with. When the time comes to get her match, she gets a surprising match with Xander. ( Her best friend). After everybody gets their match they receive a microcard with the face of their match. After the banquet, she takes a look of the microcard, and doesn't see Xander's face she sees a boy named Ky. She is so confused, she thinks it was a mistake. She actually meets Ky and she ends up being his hiking partner, which meant spending a lot of time together. With all the time they spend together she ends up really liking him and falls in love with him. Cassia realizes she is really falling in love with Ky. She is caught between Xander and Ky. After a while Ky gets taken away from her to go to the military. She loved him so much she leaves Xander and tries to go find Ky.
Her choice was very surprising. I don't agree with Cassia’s decision because Xander was deeply in love with her. I mean she did follow her heart, but Xander is also very special. With her leaving, and going after Ky she is also going to get her family, Xander and friends very worried. Leaving her hometown is also going to be very dangerous and challenging. Who knows if she will get there. If she does find Ky what will happen after that. Will they come back? Where will they live? Along her way she will have to make a lot of hard decisions.
Since I had a different opinion about Cassia, it shows that she is braver than I am. I wouldn't risk anything. Where she is trying to go is very far away from her hometown. A lot of things can go wrong. If I was her I would leave Xander and try to find a different guy in the same community. Her choice was very risky and romantic at the same time.

Matched by Ally Condie tells and inspires readers that you can love, but follow the rules. The setting for this book is way in the future where Society chooses everything. Who you love, where you work, when you die. Some of the characters are Cassia (main character), Xander (Cassia’s best friend and match),and Ky (in love with Cassia). The Society chooses who you’re matched with, right? In Matched, Cassia is matched with her best friend Xander. But one day, Cassia goes to see her Micro-chip (a card that tells information about their match), she sees a different face pop up for a couple of seconds, then disappears and the screen goes black. The face was Ky, but Society chose not to match him. When Ky and Cassia fall in love (which Xander is not pleased about), the Officials (part of the Society) take both Cassia and Ky for job Interviews. Matched tells you that you can love, but follow the rules.

Title: Zach's Lie Author:Roland Smith
Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith reminds me of why you should never tell a lie. Set in town and school, also in zachs home. The story talks about how Jakes dad was involved in a gang and his dad went to jail. But he didn’t give the gang what they wanted so they came for his family. Jake had to join the witness protection group with his family. They all had to change their names, where they live and even eye color!
He moved and found new friends. He got a new small house for their family and then Zach slowly started to get used to the environment. But while he was doing that his sister was complaining about everything. He got a girlfriend and but another kid was into that girl and saw Zachs journal . He read it and gave it to the gang then they had to run and hide again.
I would not do this because I would hate to have all that stress on me. I recommend this book to everyone who likes action.

Jack Osborne’s life changes completely when men in black come to his house and holds them hostage. The men says that they are related to his father and what his job was. Now being pursued, Jack Osborne (now Zach) is now under Witness Protection and is sent to Elko, Nevada, where he tries to start a new life. The leader of the group is Alonzo and he tries to kill Jack. He teams up with a janitor, Sam, which was a former spy to set a trap to catch them. In the end he catches them but he still has to go to a new city and live a new life.
Jack Osborne’s significant choice was that he tried to deal with everything himself so nobody else would get involved. This choice influenced the janitor/former spy to help him catch the bad guys.I would agree on what Jack did because knowing that you can’t do everything yourself, he asked friends to help. I would've done exactly what he did because I rely and trust in my friends. Being able to look at what Jack did and criticize him shows that I try to learn from mistakes and care for others.

Cassia wants to look at the microcard with Xander’s information on it once agian just so she can take another look at him but what she sees on the screen isn’t Xander but Ky. Cassia is shocked by what she has saw. She begins to panic and becomes very confused. Does she like Ky or does she like Xander? The Society has never made any mistakes until now. She now has to choose between two people that she both really cares about and if she will let the Society continue controlling her life.
Cassia soon realizes who she truly loves and her choice becomes more dangerous for both her and Ky because he is an Aberration and they are not allowed to date each other. Cassia’s and Ky’s relationship is affecting Xander. He realizes how close Ky and Cassia are becoming and slowly becomes jealous because he also had feelings towards Cassia. Their love is becoming more and more dangerous as they know secrets that they shouldn’t. If they continue their relationship, Ky will be sent off to the Outer Provinces.
I do agree with Cassia’s choice because even though we have to follow the rules, it is not right when others choose for you, in this case who you love is not meant to be chosen by others but is meant to be chosen by how you feel for that person.
My opinion of the character shows who I am because I would never let anyone decide anything for me no matter what the situation is and something this important like choosing who you love shouldn’t be chosen by anyone else but should be chosen by how you feel for them.

I read the book Matched by Ally Condie. This book is inspiring because it teaches readers they don’t have to be told who to love. This book takes place in the future, where there are many rules like who you have to marry, when you die, what job you get, etc. Anyway the characters in this book are Cassia, the main character, Xander, Cassia’s best friend and first matched, and Ky, Cassia’s overall match.
In the beginning Cassia gets matched with Xander but when she gets home she she’s that Ky’s image pops up instead she then finds out that Ky is her match and now she has to decide between Ky, who she likes and likes her, or Xander her best friend who she doesn’t want to lose but he likes her and she doesn’t like him.

Rigsby’s parents should not be charged for anything, because Rigsby was doing something he wanted to do. He made the choice to pick up the controller. Not his parents. If anything the parents should be given an award for letting their child do what they wanted. It’s not like his parents left him for a year or a month. Its also not like Rigsby went off and did drugs and his parents let him. He was just a victim to a bad case of addiction. Plus Rigsby didn’t even play that long. “Rigsby did nap for a couple hours here and there during his marathon gaming session, and leaving his room a few times - for snacks, bathroom breaks, and one quick shower”. In that sentence it said “ Rigsby did nap for a couple hours here and there during his marathon gaming session”, if you read it slowly you will see that it was his fault not his parents. So should rigsby parents be charged for neglect? No, because it was Rigsbys stupid choice to pick up the controller and never put it down!

Catherine is a 12 year old girl, like any other, her life is much harder with her 8 year old brother, David. David was diagnosed with autism so its hard for Catherine to make friends, but here's her chance. The old neighbors moved out next door, and a new family moved in with a girl Catherines age and a boy Davids age. Catherine has had to deal with people with special needs the majority of her life. Catherine met a boy that she met in one of David's classes, Jason. Jason has special needs, he cant talk and has to communicate with flash cards a little booklet. Jason is in a wheelchair and feels bad he cannot run. Theres a dance and Catherine is invited to go, If jason came. She asked to have time to think about it, later, she went to the dance with Jason. After, she realizes nothing was average, like a normal girl, nothing.
Catherine had to make a choice of telling Kristi (the girl next door) the truth about David being autistic because it might ruin their friendship or not telling her. This impacted Catherine because if she told Kriti, Catherine thought Krisi would think shes a freak, along with David. I agree with this choice because it was between Jason or Kristi which one she wanted to be friend with, She chose Jason. I think that was a great choice for Catherine because she feels herself around jason, like theres nothing to hide.
This shows that Catherine is very caring because chances are she made Jason feel a lot better about himself. He may not have as many friends as Kristi has, because of his disability. It may not have made Kristi feel her best but she has better things to look forward to. Like sports, friends, etc. that Jason cannot do as well as Kristi.

Crossing the wire by Will Hobbs teaches you to pursue on what you want to do and to keep on trying and trying until you reach your goal. Like in the book when Victor’s family becomes poor due to the drop in corn prices. Victor hears about his friend “crossing the wire” (the mexico and usa border) and knows that he should go to get coyote money (Money that smugglers get from their jobs in the USA) to feed his family and keep them healthy. This is victor’s first mistake. Victor ends up crossing the wire but he gets caught. Victor is then even more encouraged to go back across the border to get money because when he gets caught he wants to get back across. Victor then tries again to get across the border and this time he is successful. Victor and Rico both know that they have to find jobs to feed their families. Lucky for them almost all of Rico’s brothers and sisters work in the USA. Rico and Victor end up in fields picking asparagus even though the boys know it is not the best job they still do it for their families.
1.) The significant choice that Victor made was to leave his family to cross the border.
2.) Victors choice in the book affected the rest of his family because he could not be there for them to help them out.
3.) I agree with victors decision because he had to go to keep his family alive.
4.) My opinion about victor is that he is adventurous and wants to help others first. This shows who I am because others may see him in a different way like boring.

Matched
Ally Condie
Summary:
The Matched by Ally Condie was wrote around the topic of following your heart. The main character in Matched, Cassia Reyes, lives in the Society, a province.
Cassia receives her very own micro card that shows her match. When she looks at it again, she sees a different boy. Not Xander, but she knows this one as well. It Ky Markham. A boy she knew from the surroundings. With lots of debating she discovers that her heart is filled with Ky.
Picking Ky has made Cassia happy, but what about Xander. Xander being the match the Society originally picked for Cassia, denying the Society’s choice is a HUGE mistake. But Cassia knows better. Aware of the troubles to come, she blindly but carefully thinks her choice through. Leaving her with Ky as her wanted option.
I agree with Cassia because she followed what her heart said, and was happy with her decision. Though she knows that her decision can bring loads of trouble, Cassia decides to stand up for her love. My opinion on Cassia's decision shows that I believe that your heart knows what is the best for you. I feel that if I was in Cassia's place I would have done the same thing.

The book crossing the wire is about two teenagers named Victor Flores and Rico trying to get in the U.S. illegally because Both of their families are running low on money. Since they have no money to pay the people who smuggle people into the U.S. they must get across illegally. This takes place from a small village in Mexico called Los Arboles and takes places in different areas in Mexico and Arizona.
Them trusting some people, that was a big mistake because some of the people they trusted were criminals. The people they also trusted could have turned them in. But luckily they were never caught because they were helped by normal citizens to cross the border.
Victor and Rico finally makes it to the border into Arizona and Victor gets a job but Rico decides to go back to his hometown Los Arboles. I wish I had all the guts to do what Victor does.

Since Victor is the oldest in the family and his father is dead, Victor decides to cross the wire and go to the United States. This decision of going to the U.S. affects his mother a lot but he goes anyways because his family in needs of money. But with no coyote money he has to go through a lot more than expected. Victor has to pass border patrol several times and almost gets killed. But in his first attempt of crossing the border he goes with his new friend Miguel but they get caught. Then Victor is sent back to Mexico where he meets up with his old friend Rico.
Rico and him cross the border but they end up with drug dealers. Then they have to escape the drug dealers but they were very nearly killed. They end up getting help from people people on the way and they end up growing asparagus in Washington. I think Victor’s decision to always help his family no matter what was very important. If my family was in trouble I would do the same thing.

Matched by Ally Condie is story about a young girl falling in forbiden love and rebelling against the society. Cassia Reyes is living a normal life in the current society but her dream of an ordinary life is soon to be turned upside down when Cassia finally attends her match banquet. She is matched with her best friend Xander and couldn’t be happier. Then, shortly afterwards, Cassia views the microcard that she is given and see’s another face for one moment that is not Xander’s. Ky Markham. Cassia decided to confide in her grandfather who is shortly approaching his death date. Cassia instead receives a gold compact containing a secret compartment which contains a forbidden poem. Cassia is later associated with Ky and both reveal deep secrets that could lead towards the unraveling of the truth about their beloved society.
Cassia has made a big decision to trust Ky with the knowledge of the poem. As they shared the poem amongst themselves, both fall in love with each other. Now that Cassia is in love with Ky, she leaves Xander behind heartbroken, but trusting him to keep the secret of both of them being in love. She had to trust Xander with so much information yet left him behind, totally crushed. The big decision Cassia made had greatly affected Xander in so many ways. I agree with Cassia’s choice to follow her heart but what she did to Xander was a little harsh. I think that if I were put in Cassa’s position, I would do the same thing she did, staying true to your heart and making your own decisions.

In the book, Matched by Allie Condie, the author makes it clear that when your destiny tells you to do one thing, you heart tells you another. When you live in the Society, the government controls everything. What you eat, where you live, and even when you die. Cassia Reyes (main character) has always trusted the Society’s decisions, but all of that changed the night of her match banquet. That night, she is matched with her best friend, Xander, and receives a microcard. On the microcard, Xander’s face pops up, and all of a sudden, a new face appears. But, it’s not Xander’s. No, it was Ky Markham, an aberration from the Outer Provinces. Troubled, Cassia decides to keep it a secret, leading to many consequences and also putting herself and other people in danger.
Shortly after, her grandfather has his final banquet. Before he dies, he gives her a special poem. A poem strangely not in the 100 poems of the Society. And when he dies, tension and curiosity fills the air of the motionless room. As her journey continues, her morning activity (hiking) leads to more important events. Cassia knows this is the right time to read the poem. She reads the first line of the poem, Do not gentle into that good night. It suddenly speaks to her, and rebellion rises up in her. Ky Markham is also part of her morning activity, and surprisingly, throughout all their hiking trips, Cassia learns secrets she’s never even thought about. Cassia and Ky fall in love, putting her and Ky in serious danger. Her choice was not right of her to do, and she didn’t realize the reality of her relationship with Ky.
Cassia doesn’t realize the danger of the situation. If her and Ky fall in love, it would mess up the whole matching pool system, considering the fact that Ky is an aberration. It caused Xander to be crushed, and the Society to sacrificing Ky by forcing him to fight in the war. No one is happy, and tragedy has struck anger in Cassia’s heart. She rebels and goes after Ky, but there was another problem with her choices. By going after Ky, she has now forced her family to go live in the Outer provinces. This causes her family to live in harsh conditions with barely any food, and putting them in even more danger. If Cassia would have just let go of Ky and lived a happy life with Xander, everything would have been fine. But, she let her feelings get in the way of her destiny. This book tells us that following your heart may not always be the right thing to do, you just have to follow the crowd. At the same time, it also reminds us of the consequences we have when we don’t follow the rules. I know that I should follow my heart when I feel the need to, but not to push it to far so other people and ourselves get hurt.

New Post Zach's LIe by Roland Smith teaches kids not to make bad choices or you will have to suffer the consequences. In the beginning of the story, as I said, they were living a very normal life. But when their dad, Neil, was sent to jail for an accusation of drug abuse, things got a little more mixed up than planned. Neil's boss, Alonzo, gave all the blame to Neil, even though he was the one to blame. He started threatening to kill the family, and so they had to go undercover, forever. They had to change their names, dye their hair, get contacts, move, and blend in like they were just another random family, keeping everything secret. That day, Jack became Zach.
Later on in the book, Alonzo found out (through spies) what their new names were, and the new looks, too. Things started becoming disastrous, because they had to watch everything they do. One wrong move could've had them all killed, along with all of their loved ones. At one point, he had everyone under control, until he was the one who decided to make that bad move. Everything was taken under control by Zach, and all was good.
In the end, they all had to go back into protection again. Alonzo just wouldn't stop. It was horrible. So if you and looking for a interesting book you should read this.

Later, Catherine was thinking of telling Kristi the truth about David about his disability because she did not want to ruin their friendship by not telling her the truth. Except, she also thought that if she told Kristi, she would think that David is a freak and she would not like to hang out with her anymore. In the end Catherine did tell Kristi the truth about David and everything was okay. I agree with Catherine’s decision because by telling Kristi the truth she could relax and not hide David’s disability. This relates to me because I would just be myself and not hide anything with my friends that could affect our friendship.

Zach’s Lie
Roland Smith
Zach’s Lie is a novel that reminds me about the theme of choice and to always make the right decision when challenges arise. This story is about a teenaged boy named Zach who lives with his older sister and mom. His dad is never around because his job is far away. One day, some strange people come to Zach’s house and his family discovered that Zach’s father was importing drugs across the border for a paycheck.
Not only that, they also figure out that there are some other drug dealers who are associated with the problem. Clearly, they have to do something to protect themselves. So, they changed their identity and all of their contact information and got into a Witness Security Program in Elko, Nevada. Moving to Elko was a difficult adjustment, until he met Sam and Catalin.
Sam was the school custodian, and Catalin was a friend who shared the same classes with him. Sam had negotiated a deal with him about staying at a fancy place if Zach helped him. However, there was more that came with the deal. Coincidentally, Catalin helped her parents there every night, which definitely put a smile on Zach’s face. As Zach stays there every night, he develops a better relationship with Catalin. But there is some more news that comes with that. It turns out that Alonso, one of the drug dealers working with Zach’s dad, has figured out where they are hiding. And he arrives.
He approaches a kid named Peter Short, who had recently gotten in a fight with Zach. Peter stole Zach’s diary, the one possession of Zach’s that had the most information anyone could ever figure out. So, Peter and Alonso made a deal, which was for Peter to tell him everything he read in the diary. In exchange, Alonso, paid him. Peter made a bad choice to give away the information to Alonso. On the other hand, if I were in a fight with a kid, I would give it away too.
Eventually, Alonso finds Zach and tries to kill him. But someone else steps in. And you will have to read the book to find out how it ends...

Crossing the Wire is set in Los Arboles, Mexico. Victor ( the main character) live with his family. He is working at his family farm trying to help his family survive. Rico (His best friend) leaves to America first because it is the land of promises. Rico told Victor to tell his parent that he is leaving They are heartbroken when they hear the news. Unfortunately, Victor’s Dad dies and the whole family is losing a lot of money. The money of crop goes down and Victor has a decision to make. Will he go to Mexico and support his family with money or stay with them and sell all their livestock.
The first thing that victor needed to do is to cross the border. He had trouble at first. Running in to the border patrol. Jumping off trains. Getting hurt and spot out. But then he tagged along with a lot of people. He meetup with people along the way. One was an old man. He was very experienced at this. But he had numerous injuries and was crippled. When the man was going with Victor, the border patrol caught them. The man and Victor were running and the man stopped and gave all his supplies to Victor. The man believed in Victor. This really changed Victor because this showed that he believed that Victor could make it all the way and he had great motivation.
Rico and Victor tagged along with numerous people including drug runners. They smuggle drugs over the border. After they were almost to america Victor tries to escape from them and then it turns to a life or death battle. The smugglers have threatened Victor and Rico to death because they have escaped from the group. Rico and Victor escape from the group and have a decision to get passed the cliff or get caught by them and get killed. They go off the cliff and survive. They are free at last!
The decision of Victor going on the cliff was vital because they could have died from the drug smugglers. At America Rico tries to contact his brother that gave him the money to go to America, but Rico’s brother gets in jail for smuggling cars. Victor goes and work at an apple orchard and Rico goes to Mexico and attends school. Overall, all the decisions in life really impact it.

Rules
During this summer I read the book Rules by:Cynthia Lord. This book was about a 12 year old girl who has a younger brother named David with autism. Catherine’s (David’s sister) responsibility is to take care of her brother. As Catherine guides her brother, she keeps a journal that contains rules for David to follow. Examples of these rules are “ No toys in the fish tank”, “Don’t stand in front of the TV when other people are watching it”, and “Say thank you when someone gives you a present (even if you don’t like it ).” These rules are suppose to help David be more independent that way Catherine does not always have to baby him all the time. Catherine has always wished that a girl her age would move next door. Later in the book a new girl named Kristi moves next door. Catherine is very excited but she worries that David would ruin her first impression. As Catherine gets to know Kristi, Catherine also helps her mom take David to the OT. As this experience gets in the way of things, Catherine meets a boy named Jason. Catherine discovers that Jason values others. They have created a friendship that will never be broken. Kristi gets involved and encourages Catherine to dance with Jason but Catherine is just too embarrassed. At the very beginning Catherine wishes for nothing more than a normal life, at the very end Catherine wishes for nothing more than great friendships with great friends.
Catherine’s significant choice was to dance with Jason. An example that shows that Catherine decides to dance with Jason is, “...Break dance rule…,” “ All right.” Catherine at first was a little rocky about making this decision but she realized that to dance with Jason would not be such a bad thing to do. Catherine at the end knew that it was the right thing to do and she enjoyed dancing with Jason.
Catherine’s choice affects the prospective of Catherine herself. Making this decision was hard but worth it. It was a baffling decision because Catherine was afraid of what others would think about her. It was decision worth making because Catherine was able to discover that a friendship is stronger than others thoughts.
I agree with Catherine's choice because making a decision that you are unsure about shows that you have good character. It also shows that you value others even if they are unique from everyone else.
Catherine’s choice has impacted me because it has taught me to just be true to myself and others. It has also taught me to be different from others and to make risky decisions that I am unsure about because those decisions could make you known for a good character. Even though everybody views everybody in different perspectives that does not necessarily mean that that is your label, it is the way that you view yourself that counts.

Reflection Topic: In your opinion, do video games have an overall positive or negative impact
on teenagers? Why?
Claim: Video games have a negative impact on teenagers.
Most teenagers believe that video games have no effect on them, but is it possible that they do? The health and well being of teenagers is being negatively impacted by video games. First, one of the side effects that is caused by video game addiction is dehydration. “..When you expel more liquids than you drink in, your blood volume shrinks…,” states the article “ Teen Hospitalized after 4-day Video Game Binge.” This means that when teenagers are actively involved with video games they forget to get several drinks of water. Secondly, video game addiction can cause fainting. The article “ Teen Hospitalized after 4-day Video Game Binge” states that, “ … a lack of oxygen in your brain makes you pass out…” When teenagers become so involved in video gaming, they are not hydrating themselves enough, therefore causing low blood pressure which can cause fainting as a result. Finally, video game addiction can result in death. “ Other non-stop gamers who forgot to drink liquids have died,” states the article “ Teen Hospitalized after 4-day Video Game Binge.” Teenagers don’t understand that their life can be taken away from them in an instant. The important message to take away is that video game addiction can put your health at risk. All of these key elements explain why video games have a negative impact on teenagers.

In the book Matched by Ally Condie, Cassia and her family live in a perfect “Society” that controls everything. what you eat, where you work, who you love, and even when you die. Cassia, her mother, father, and younger brother Bram are just fine with that. Well, until the night of the Matching Banquet. She is matched with her best friend, Xander and is given a microcard to memorize. When she looks at the microcard, she sees her friends face, but also another, Ky Markham. And now Cassia’s perfect world will turn upside down. A new side of her shows, a rebellious, teenage girl that she never knew existed. She “accidentally” falls in love with Ky and for that, her and her family must pay the price.
The first sign of her rebellious side shows during her grandfather’s final Banquet, where he gives her a poem, one that isn’t part of the 100 poems the Society has. She could have burned it, thrown it away, get rid of it, like a normal Society civilian. Instead, she kept it and later read it on her morning activity, hiking, a few days later. Ky was also in hiking and they gained a small friendship which quickly grew as the two got to know each other. Soon, they fall in love, and that’s where everything goes haywire.
They are found out, and both Cassia and Ky, and their families, are in extreme danger. Ky is sent off to fight in the war that is happening by the borders while cassia and her family are sent to the Outer Provinces where they must farm for a living, have very little food or money. It’s then does Cassia realize the consequences of her rebellion, but she knows that in her heart, she did the right thing and as long as her family stood with her, everything would be okay.
The book tells us to follow our hearts and do what you think is right, but don’t push it too hard, or it will break and leave you to deal with the consequences. Her choice affected me by showing me that it’s okay to disagree with others, as long as you don’t make it too obvious, or there will be some serious whiplash coming at you, depending on what you do or don’t agree on.

Matched takes place in a society where everything is decided for you, they decide what you eat, when you exercise, what you were, even who you love. Cassia reyes part of this society she trusts in the government in what they decide for her, but all of that changes when she learns who her match will be. When you live in a society like this you learn when you are only seventeen if there is a person that is your perfect match or not. Cassia has had the dream of learning who her match is for her entire life, and she is ecstatic to find out that her best friend xander is her match. When you are matched you are given a micro chip that tells you about you match because usually you don’t know your match. Everything is great until cassia looks at the micro chip which is supposed to have information about xander on it, instead she see’s her other friend ky on the screen. soon she learns that it was all a mistake, and that she should just go back to her normal life again. When cassia signs up for hiking to be her summer activity she notices that ky is in hiking too. One day as they are hiking together she realizes that she has fallen in love with the wrong guy. Cassia is a sorter so she sorts things like numbers images and things like that. One day she has to do a real live sort, usually she does practice sorts, these aren't very important but when you have a real sort the outcomes depend on the groups you put things in. Soon she discovers that she will have to sort ky into ether the higher group which would give him a better life and she probably won’t see him again, or the lower group which guarantees he will be working in a factory for his life and he will stay with her. She decides no matter the risk of losing him she will give him a better life. a few weeks after her decision she learns that he will not get a better life at all and is sent away to fight in a war that the government is losing.
The choice that cassia had to make is whether or not to sort ky in the higher group and give him a better life, or keep him working in a factory and have him stay with her but his future would not be so bright. She decided to take the chances of not seeing him again but knowing he would have a good future.
This choice affects ky tremendously, because she is literally deciding his future. If she chooses for him to work in the factory then he might have a shorter life span. It also affects her to because if he goes then she won’t see him probably ever again.
I agree with her decision because If I was the one who had to chose I would choose the choice that I believed gave that person a better future.
This shows that I am a person that wants the best for people, even if it is a risky decision. I would rather know that someone else is happy over the fact that I am happy.

Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith shows how hard it is to not be yourself. Zach (Jack), Wanda (Joanne), Mary (Patricia) undergo a traumatizing experience where people come to their house and take them hostage. It turns out these men these men are part of a drug cartel that Zach’s father is involved in. After this they eventually go to the “Witness Security Program” were they totally change their identities. They move to a remote city in Nevada called Elko. They start up a new life and eventually get settled in. But the the drug cartels leader Alonzo pays one of the students to find one of these children. Eventually Zach needs to make the choice whether to trust Sam ,an adult friend that used to be a spy, with his secrets or face the problem alone. He trusts Sam and the problem gets resolved.
When Zach tells Sam who he is he holds the fate of his family in his hand. If he did not do this his family could have died due to his ability to trust. When Zach tells Sam his secret Sam was able to lure Alonzo in the school where he had set up a trap allowing Sam to save Zach and his family.
After this Zach and his family had to move and change their names again. They were then called The Greenes. I think Zach’s decision was good, he was able to make a quick decision that led to success. I would be just like Zach in the sense be more like myself and not let something keep me from being me. Zach also taught me that I should always find someone who I can trust no matter the circumstances.

Jack Osborne’s dad gets involved with some very dangerous people. These people, led by Alonzo Aznar, break into the Osborne’s house and threaten the whole family. After that, Jack’s family is put into the Witness Security Program and everything about them is changed. They have new names, a new hometown, even new hair and eye colors. Everything about Jack’s family is a lie. Jack makes some choices that have big impacts on his life and the lives of others.
The major choice Jack must make is when he chooses to send June Saunders the postcard. I think this is the biggest choice he made because if he hadn’t sent that postcard, then Alonzo and his men wouldn’t have found out where Jack’s family was living. In the book it says, “He looked at the postmark on the card and smiled. The Osbornes were in Elko, Nevada.” This was when El Sereno was looking through June Saunders mail and he told Alonzo Aznar where the Osbornes were living. This is also the biggest choice because it put many people in danger, like Peter Short, Jack’s family, Sam, and Catalin.
Therefore, I do not agree with Jack’s choice because it put a lot of people in danger. If Jack really wanted to keep his family safe, he would have paid closer attention to his actions. If I was in a situation like Jack was, I wouldn’t have communicated with anyone from my “past life”.
Finally, my opinion shows that I am very observant and if I was in the situation that Jack was in, I would not contact anyone that I knew previously. More importantly, I would not send the postcard because I would want to protect the people that are important to me. Sam, Catalin, and Peter Short were all affected by this choice in a bad way.

ReplyDeleteI think there should not be a minimum age on video games. They just need some sort of cap on them. I agree that some teens can get taken too far, but, If the game for their parents shut off the game every 1 ½ hr. or so there would be no problem. Video games can be helpful for learning and other various skills, why would we put a cap on learning? All the gaming mishaps have been because of people that could not stop gaming, This is why a short break every now and then could prevent gamer deaths and mishaps. As long as gamer and people alike take breaks and get hydrated with some physical fitness I see no reason to put a minimum age on Video games. As from the article, “ Remember to eat, get up, move around every once and awhile, and get some sleep.” this shows there doesn't need to be an age minimum on video games just take a few breaks.

Crossing The Wire by Will Hobbs, an adventurous thrilling book, that sets a mind boggling picture. It takes place in the village of Les Ar boles Mexico, Arizona, and in Washington in the US . Victors family is poor, Victors father has died so the 15 teen year old boy has to take care of his mother brother Chuy and 2 sisters. Victor takes care of his family and works at a farm to pick corn. It starts out with Victor Flores and his friend Rico Rivera, Rico takes Victor to a tunnel where Rico’s brother who jumped the border earlier to the US sent Rico 1,500 US dollars. So that Rico can jump the border too with a coyote( a person who helps you jump the border). Rico does not tell his father and mother. Later that night at dinner Victor is eating and gets the motivation to jump the border too. He gets up tells his mother “Mom I have to jump the border, we are barely making enough money to pay our bills”. Victors mother says “how are you going to pay the coyote”. “ Victor says i'll go like dad by my self”. Victors mother says okay. Then the adventure to jump the border starts, do you think victor will make it or not.
Victor determines he will jump the border. This is very important because without this choice the book would completely change . Like victor meeting Rico who takes him to the tunnel where he gets the motivation to jump the border. Or him ever getting to the US. If Victor did not make this choice victors family would be really poor and Victor would have to still work at the farm pulling corn out and farming. Victor would be an adult still working on a farm if he did not go to the US.
I think that the choice Victor Flores made was a good choice. The whole book would be changed if Victor did not make that choice. Victors life would be completely different he would be still a farmer and grow up being farmer. But since Victor sets a goal to make it to the US maybe he will get an education. But also he definitely will get more money and a better job. If Victor is in the US then he will help support his family and maybe his brother Chuy and sisters will get an education. Victor is kind of like me we both are adventures willing and caring about our family.
You will have to read the book yourself to find out what happens to Victor and Rico.

ReplyDeleteZach's night turns out very unusual... he is held hostage and threatens his own dad not to speak in court. This leave Zach to have to move to a secret place aka nowhere aka Elko Nevada. Here he meets a nice girl who makes this worth while, a bully who makes everything spiral out of control, and a janitor who saves the day. So the men who found him before with a little help from the bully, find Zach again and just as everything does bad, the janitor, Sam, capture them and since Zach is revealed, he moves away to his true and final home this time with his whole family.
Zach left info on who he really was out in the open, also he had to come over the shock and save everyone, which he did.
This put the girl he likes, the bully, and all of his friends including his family in danger, but, his second decision saves them all.
I feel like his he had never had that info he could have just gone on with his life in Elko. So overall i disagree with is first choice but agree with his second.
Zach is a young boy with some life trouble. he also has a lot of confusion in his life but overall he is a strong calm boy.

I read Zach’s Lie by Rowland Smith. It was about a boy named Jack Osbourne whose dad smuggled drugs through the border for very dangerous men. Eventually his dad was arrested and was in jail. On an ordinary night some of the men Jack’s dad used to work for came to the Osbourne's house and gagged his family and asked them where it was. They did not know what “it” was so the goons left saying they would be back. The next morning the FBI came to there house and questioned them. At first the Osbourne's did not say anything but they eventually spoke. Immediately after this they were put into the witness protection program and there whole past was erased. Now they were the The Grangers from Elko, Nevada. In Elko, the “Grangers” started their life all over again. Jack changed his name to Zach and his older sister changed her name to Wanda. They were starting all over again and things were going pretty good until Zach made an enemy named Peter. Peter wanted revenge on Jack because he stole his crush Catalin. Zach was working for Sam the custodian at school so he could fix there house. Sam wanted Zach to fix a building next door to Catalins family hotel. After work everyday Zach would come to the Nevada Hotel were Sam lived and eat dinner with him. Once he stopped inside and left his back pack out where Peter found it. Peter read the journal and found out about Jack’s seccret identity. Later, Peter threatens Zach to break up with Catalin or he will tell his secret. Soon after Peter sees Zach holding Catalins hand. Peter is furious and calls Alonzo who is the head of the drug dealers. It is to late and Zach is worried he tells Sam everything, and Sam reveals to him that he is a spy. Alonzo finds Zach quickly at the Nevada Hotel and points a gun at him and asks where it is, by now Zach knows what it is but doesnt budge, Sam has a plan he say she took it from Zach and took it to the school, They headed to the school where they went the auditorium he told Alonzo where it was and Alonzo went for it but he was captured in a cage. They had tricked him! Though Alonzo was gone the Grangers had to relocate and change there identity because Alonzo can get to them through jail. They were a new family a whole family because now there dad was with them.
The choice Zach made that was wrong was not breaking up with Catalin right away. He would of lost her either way so he should of done it the safe way. Now, because he did not Catalin almost died and so did he. He put many peoples lives at risk by not choosing to break up with her and now he will have to relocate and never see Catalin ever again. This reminds me a lot when you have to make big choices that will change your life forever. I made a huge choice when I chose to quite playing the viola and now I still want to play it occasionally but its gone.

Crossing the Wire by Will Hobbs, is a story about a teenage boy trying to illegally cross from Mexico to America. It is set on the border between America and Mexico. The main characters are Victor Flores, the boy, and Rico Rivera, his friend. The story starts when Victor decides to go to America to make money for his family like his friend Rico. Victor gets caught on his first try across the border and finds out that Rico is back in Mexico, too. They decided to try again to cross the border together. They succeed but then Rico decides to go back to Mexico. Victor stays in America, finds a job, and starts to send money home to his family.
The significant choice that Victor made was to try to cross the border again. He convinced Rico to try again, too. It was an important choice because it showed how determined Victor was to make it to America so he could help support his family back in Mexico. I agreed with the choice Victor made because, if I was in the same situation, I would keep trying until I succeeded. I feel like Victor’s love and dedication to his family is the same way I feel about my family.

Rules by Cynthia Lord
Mrs. Diamond period 6
Rules by Cynthia Lord tells me to be kind and respectful to everyone, even if they have disabilities. It all starts off when Catherine (sister) wants to have a normal life like every other 12 year old girl, but instead she has to try to “tell/explain” to David (brother) the rules or things that he is not suppose to be doing, but she constantly has to remind him because of his disabilities. Catherine wants David to be normal like the rest of the kids his age, but that will probably never happen. She tries her hardest to help David understand what he is, and what he isn't suppose to do in public and at his house. Catherine's decision to help David made her unpopular at school.
After she decided to go to Davids “special class” she meets this boy named Jason and his mom doesn't really agree with her helping him but she let’s Catherine make some word cards for Jason because he is not able to talk. So she makes all of these new word cards so that he will have more things to “say” then what his mom made for him. Jason needed a wider variety of words and phrases to point out to instead of words like “Hello” “Goodbye” “How are you doing” and other things too, but Catherine added words like “Amazing” “Friend” “What’s up”. So Catherine made his options for words better because he could express more feelings.
I didn't agree with the decision that Catherine made about going to the dance with Jason instead of her new friend Kristi. She should have went with Kristi because they are neighbors and they are good friends now. I would have went with Kristi because they knew each other more, they are neighbors, and because they hung out more and told each other some secrets about each other. I wouldn't hide secrets from my friends, I would tell them the secret and ask them not to tell anyone because secrets mean a lot to the person that told you it.
Sedona F, Period 1
ReplyDeleteRules by Cynthia Lord made readers think about choices of the main character named Catherine. She has a little brother named David and a new neighbor Kristi. David has a disability and she has to put up with him all the time. A boy named Jason also has a disability. He goes to the same place as David to get help. Catherine and him become friends. Jason uses cards with words on them to communicate. And since she is such a good artist she made a lot of cards for him. Kristi is Catherine's new neighbor and Catherine wants to be good friends since her best friend just moved. Catherine doesn’t really tell the whole truth about David and his disability. In her sketchbook, she drew a picture of Jason and Kristi was pressuring her to ask him to the dance. And this problem leads to one of Catherine’s big choice.
Catherine doesn’t make the best choices, like not telling Kristi about David’s and Jason’s disability. She did not end up asking Jason to the dance so he asked her. This choice of hers made Catherine, Kristi, and Jason confused. When she said no to Jason, it made him feel ashamed of himself because he thought she was embarrassed. I do not agree with her choice. She made Jason feel bad and she ended up with some regrets.
I don’t agree with this choice because I believe even if the truth hurts, it is better than lying. And I would rather be hurt knowing it was the truth. If I had to make a choices like Catherine, I would of said yes to Jason and go to the dance with him because it would have made him feel special and good. If I get a chance to make someone smile, I will try something to cheer them up. I like to see people that are happy not sad.

I read the book Matched by Allie Condie. This book is about a girl named Cassia Reyes, a girl in her teens who is about to become an adult, by having her match banquet. This match banquet is a night were a few boys and girls dress in suits and ball gowns that are worth hundreds of dollars. At this banquet, (which happens in all the other provinces) you will find out who you will spend the rest of your life with, who you will marry. Cassia gets ready for her match banquet and finds out that her match is her lifelong best friend, Xander. Cassia is thrilled when she finds out! She went home to see him again on her card and she see’s Xander, and another boy she has only encountered once in her life before, Ky Markham. Ky is adopted and is an aberration, which means he will never get matched. Cassia is confused and worried because she thinks the society made a mistake, the society never makes mistakes. She leaves it alone for awhile so she can visit her grandfather. She really wants to see him because he is turning 80 soon. That is the age that you are supposed to die. She went to him for advice and he told her, “It’s OK to wonder Cassia.” and so she does. For her hiking unit she ends up having the class with Ky. She learns so much from him and begins to love him more than Xander. After her Grandfather dies, everything keeps falling apart. Her family has many encounters with the society. Cassia starts to wonder if it is OK to wonder. And so she does. She starts to learn things from Ky and starts keeping his secrets, and vise versa. I agree with the choice that Cassia made because she followed her heart and what she thought was right. Although it changed her life forever by following Ky to the outer provinces. Her family was displaced and had to stay there. I would follow my heart but it was a stupid choice to put her family through As Allie Condie said, “Write or wrong, between Perfection and Passion.”
Zach’s Lie by Ronald Smith was a very great and exciting story, let me tell you about it.
ReplyDeleteThere is this ordinary teenager named Jack who was living a normal life, but later, a crisis happens. Suddenly, men came into the house while Jack was inside, and did threats to him and also his family, too. Later, the police comes to help them, but it didn’t seem like help to Jack. Aunt Dorris then comes to help them, and Jack finds out his father has been selling drugs to these men, and now his mom, sister, and himself have to change their identity and move somewhere, where the enemies won’t locate them. Jack is now Zack, as his family also changes their identities and names, while Zack’s father is in jail now. Zach has a different life, and must get used to it.
Zack is now in a different house, in a different school. He doesn’t really like the change he is having, and can’t believe of what his father has done. He later starts to meet 2 people. He sneaks into the school to look around, and then was in a Theatre room, as he hears the sound of a piano. He sees it is not an instructor, but a Janitor. Later he runs back away, and when it was the day of his school, he meets a girl. Catalin, as they later start to become friends. Then later he meets this bully, as they got into a fight. He was sent to the custodian, which was actually the Janitor, and his name was Sam. Later Zach started to become friends with Sam, and later Zach started to kinda get used to his life. Except for those threats the men did, and the bullying the bully was doing.
Later, the men were searching for the father of Zack’s family, so that they can trace them down and take them. Then when they find him, the men go over to the place, as they search around for Zach. Later they go in a building where Zach was last there, and he has left his diary there, where he keeps all his private information in there. The men takes it, as they find out that Zach was Jack. Later, they take Zach’s bully, and asks him where he is, as they find out, they go and get him. Zach was with Catalin in the field where some of her family lives, as the men in night come over there and threatens Zach with Catalin.
Sam comes to the rescue, as he beats up the men, and Zach helps Catalin and his grandpa.
Later Aunt Dorris comes, as she tells Zach and his family to now change to a new house and a new life. Zach is very angry to go, because he has gotten used to this life, but the right choice was to move. He says goodbye to all his friends, Sam, Catalin, and others. I do agree with this choice because, if he doesn’t, the men can get another group to get him, or some things can happen with him. This shows me who I am because he has made the right choice, and sometimes I would make the right choice when it’s very important. This book was very great, and I would recommend it to people who likes adventure, action, drama, and a great story!

Matched by Ally Condie. This story takes place in the future were the 'Society' takes control of your life they told you what to do like when you eat, what you eat, what your hobbies are, and who your match will be or who you will be marrying. Cassia is the main character she is 17 years old and she is very nervous to find out who her match will be. Her match will be the rest of her life But her match will be very unique.
Cassia is matched with a guy named Xander. Xander has been a friend with Cassia for a long time. Cassia Was given a micro card which tells you everything about your match. When cassia opens her micro card she sees that Ky, a guy she knows shows up in the micro card and she is very curious to know what was going on so she asks the officials and they said that it was a mistake that Ky showed up in her micro card.
I am a very kind and loving person and i would try to do whats best for someone I love.

I read Zach's Lie by Roland Smith. In this book Jack Osborne AKA Zach Granger is surprised one night when his house is broken into by Alonzo Alazar and his little passi. The men come looking for his dad who ripped Alazar off in a drug cartel and Alonzo threatens Zach and his family with death if they tell that their house was broken into. Zach’s mom told the police. Knowing that Zach’s family and him are dead meat if they are caught by Alonzo Alazar if they stay where they are. The Grangers change their identities and appearances, they also move from their nice big house in California to a little house in a small town in Elko Nevada. The Granger’s go a long time without being caught by Alazar and eventually end up with Alazar in jail and new Identities as the Green’s moving again. But they were successful because of Zach’s choice. His choice was to trust the custodian at his school with who he really was. Sam (the janitor) helps Zach along the way and helps by tricking Alonzo Alazar into a trap to defeat him once and for all. for if Zach did not trust Sam with his problem then he and his family would be in the ground.

Matched by Ally Condie is about a society that has a lot of rules. The people who live there don’t get to make their own decisions. They have to wear the same clothes, eat whatever the officials tell them to eat, do the job that they are assigned to do, and be matched with another person. If you do something wrong or against the society you are an anomaly , you are single and will have no match.Cassia who gets matched with her best friend, Xander, is thrilled. When she gets home to watch his profile another boy shows up on the screen, Ky Markham. Overtime Cassia starts to fall for Ky and Ky starts to fall for Cassia. She is torn between Xander and Ky.
Meanwhile the society are having problems with the surrounding provinces rebelling against them. The society is sending hundreds of workers away to protect villagers and Ky is one of them . The significant choice that Cassia had to make was between Ky and Xander. By falling in love with Ky he is sent to go fight in the army because of Cassia’s choice. Xander gets his feelings hurt but he still supports her decision .
I agree with Cassia’s decision to be in love with Ky than Xander because even though she is breaking the rules and making everyone else life harder she should do what she believes is right and you can't control who you fall in love with. Cassia’s choice shows who I am because she went for what is right no matter what the officials told her.

In Matched, the province Cassia lives in is one of the inner provinces so there is no freedom. If you are interested in someone everyone knows it won’t happen. You can be out with anyone from anywhere, Cassia is somehow matched with her best friend, Xander, but when another boy she knows appears on her microcard she is drawn to what she can’t have. Cassia is interested in a boy who is not classified as a real citizen which means if she is seen with him or kisses him it will result as an infraction which if you get two of you can be taken for society and give a new location. She falls in love and decides she wants to be with Ky. Xander, her match, the person the society has chosen for Cassia, is jealous. Cassia makes the terrible choice of throwing away the life the society has planned for her in order to be with Ky. Now Cassia pays the price, Ky is being sent away and Cassia makes the life changing decision to look for him. This puts her and her family in a bad position. they will continue their lives unknown even tho they would have lived an almost perfect life as regular people. Because of Cassia, her family is separated from people they care about. Cassia is still endangering her family as she continues her search for Ky. If the society finds out, she and her family with become Arriebtion status “not real citizens”.
Cassia’s family has not committed any crimes against the society, yet they are being forced to move. Xander, who was still grieving the loss of his match, was worried and greatly saddened by Cassia’s leaving. The society had set up for her to see Key on the micro card which had caused her to take interest in Ky. Cassia had been set up but still did not realize she needed to put her family first or she would not have what wonders were intended for her. She got the luck of being with sone she already cared about, which in most cases you were put with someone you didn’t even know. She should have taken advantage of her gift.
I did not agree with Cassia’s choice because she could have had a nice life with her best friend. Cassia did not take advantage of this. I know that if I lived in a society like that and I got the opportunity that she did, knowing I cared about my match, I would sacrifice my love for Ky to keep my family safe. Instead of Ky, I would choose Xander.

In the book Matched by, Ally Condie it tells the readers about the theme of choices. In a future dystopian society the government controls everything. In this society lives three friends Cassia, Ky and Xander. Cassia, Xander, and Ky’s lives change when they become 17 years old. Cassia and Xander have to be matched with a husband and wife. Odd but a miracle Cassia and Xander are matched together. But on Cassia’s microchip shows Ky. Cassia gets very interested in Ky after seeing the microcard. Cassia then has to make a choice between her love or perfect.
Cassia’s choice was good and bad. Cassia should be able to choose who she will love and marry. Also it was a bad choice because the society thinks she might start something big like a rebellion. As a result she and her family are put in great danger to becoming aberrations. Another choice she made was also bad and good. When cassia was sorting she had to place workers in new position or stay the same. She chooses for Ky to get new job. This is a good decision because she wants the best for Ky even if she can't see him anymore. But this was also a bad decision because the society placed him to fight in the war. If I had to make a significant choice I would choose the best thing for me or them because I would want the best for my friends and family.

If I was in this situation I know that I can’t charge illegally into a heavily occupied border zone that might even result in my death.

My book I read was Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith which shows the choice of life and death. It is in small house in Elko. It is about a family whose lives change drastically after Zach’s(Jack) dad made a good choice for the bad he had done. He talks about the drug dealing he had done and now a guy named Alonzo is after his wife(Patricia), his daughter (Joanne), and his son(Zach). Alonzo is doing that to tempt Zach’s dad to not tell secret information to the police. But secretly Zach has the information and doesn’t even know it. Also Alonzo is trying to track them down to try and kill them. Alonzo finds out where they are after they send a postcard to their lawyer.
At Zach's new school he befriends a janitor who works there. Who is actually an old spy and when Zach trusts telling Sam about his family’s issue he makes a great plan. The plan was to trick Alonzo to think he has the journal and then knock him out with that old punching bag. Also he befriend a girl named Catilin, they get to know each other better when Sam takes him to the hotel room and Zach finds out Catilin’s family own the hotel. Also Catilin is threatened to be killed by Alonzo when Alonzo finds out where Zach and his family are hiding. He thought that would lure Zach and make him give up the journal but he thought wrong because Sam knew exactly how to react to a predicament like this because of his job background.
Zach’ choice about trusting Sam was very important because without Sam Zach, his family, and Catilin would have died. Also Alonzo would have gotten the information he needed. I would agree with Zach’s choice of trusting Sam because if he didn’t this problem would have ended differently and badly for everyone. Also no one but would have known what to do in the horrible situation they were in. In my opinion this reflects me through trust. I am a very trustworthy person and would help a person if they needed it. Also I trust people to help me out when I need it. Usually I tell my friends secrets of mine because I know them well and can trust them.

In the book Zach's Lie by: Roland Smith, there was a happy family with parent who weren't getting along to well and the dad was away. One day in the middle of the night some men came into the house and threatened to kill them. The men left and a little later the FBI broke in their house and kicked them out.m It turned out that the dad was drug smuggling. Then because of the dad the whole family has to go into a Witness Security Program where they have to move, get new names, change their hair, and even their eyes. In the book, they had to move to Elko, Nevada and change their names to Zach and Wanda Granger. In Elko they meet new people, see new things, get new friends but life will never be the same for Zach Granger in Zach's Lie.

The book Rules by Cynthia Lord clearly showed that the main character, Catherine, was having some major problems in her life. First of all, her autistic brother David, has been interfering with her life. She hasn't been able to bring friends over lately, because she’s afraid of the effect that David might have on them. Most people are awful, and choose to make fun of David, which absolutely repulses Catherine. The worst of them all is David’s bully, Ryan, who constantly teases David, playing it off as a harmless joke. David doesn’t understand this cruel treatment, but Catherine does, and she can’t stand it. Soon Catherine gets a new neighbor, Kristi, who happens to be the same age as her. Catherine is ecstatic; her dreams of having a best friend neighbor are finally coming true. These dreams soon come crashing down when Kristi befriends Ryan. This disgusts Catherine, how can he seem so nice with Kristi, but be so mean to David? Kristi of course doesn't believe Catherine when she tells her what Ryan has done to David, and their friendship soon comes crumbling down.
One day at David’s occupational therapy, Catherine meets a boy named Jason. He’s disabled, so he has to use word cards to communicate. Being an artist, seeing the plain word cards makes Catherine disappointed. How can he be expected to express himself with such a basic word choice? That’s when Catherine decides to make Jason new word cards; exciting and useful words, not just words like sad and mad. Words like Excuse and murky are soon added to Jason’s collection thanks to Catherine. Spending time with Jason makes Catherine realize what a real friend is. Kristi was never a real friend, Catherine realizes, she was just using her to get close to Ryan. Kristi always made Catherine feel uncomfortable to have David around, but now she realizes just because David’s special doesn’t mean she has to hide him. Catherine learns to accept that David will always be different, and that she can’t change him, no matter how many rules she gives him.
I definitely agree with Catherine's choice to no longer be friends with Kristi, she treated David wrong, and that wasn’t ok. My opinion of Catherine's choice shows who I am because I always try to be friends with people who are kind to the people round them, and not just one specific person.

Zach’s Lie: by Ronald Smith
Zach Granger, Wanda, and their mom are living a big lie. They are in the Witness Protection Program all because Zach and Wanda’ s father got in some drug dealing business with some the wrong people. they end up in a quiet town where the motto is (everyone knows everything about everybody) the three E’s. He has friends a girlfriend he ends up getting known for his real identity and has to move again but he gets to be with his father who are now the Greens.
Zach first choice was to keep his journals. His other choice was to trust the custodian in an hour of need. If Zach had not trusted the custodian he could’ve hurt the ones he loved. In addition if he had never had the journals he could have live a good life.I disagree with his first choice because he could’ve had his life a normal one like everyone else. The second choice is where i agree it was a good idea to trust his custodian because he was actually a retired spy.
I would've burnt the journals to hide my life to protect everyone else. i would also trust anyone who i had a common enemy with.

Zach's Lie By Roland Smith
Zach’s Lie By Roland Smith is about a boy named Jack who was living a normal life, but his dad smuggled drugs through the border for very dangerous men. His dad was eventually arrested and was put in jail, but one night some of the men Jack’s dad used to work for came to the Osbourne's house and threatened his family and asked them where it was. Jack’s family did not know what they were talking about so the men left saying they would be back and threatened them if they told the police then their dead. The next day the police comes to Jack’s house to inspect the incident, and the family is also questioned about what happened. Now Jack and his family goes into a Witness Protection Program because his father’s in jail and he is in safe from the drug dealers Alonzo Aznar for now, At the witness protection program Jack's family has to change their Last name to The Grangers from Elko, Nevada. Now Jack starts a new life with his family by changing his name from Jack to Zach and his older sister changed her name to Wanda. Zach’s family was getting a bit more comfortable with their life, until Alonzo pays one of the students to find Zach. Zach now needs to make the choice of trusting Sam ,an adult friend and custodian that used to be a spy, with his secrets or face the problem alone. He trusts Sam and the problem gets resolved by having the police put Alonzo and his men in jail.
Zach trusted Sam and tells him his secrets and that was a good choice because if he did not trust Sam then his family could have died due to his ability to trust. When Zach tells Sam his secret Sam was able to lure Alonzo in the school where he had set up a trap. Which allowed Sam to save Zach and his family because Alonzo and his men were put in jail.
After this event happened Zach and his family had to move and change their names again. Now they were called The Greenes. I agree with Zach’s decision because he was able to make a decision that led to success and save his family from danger . This shows me that I’m a person who will trust an adult in any situation because if I was in a bad situation and I didn't have a adult to trust I would be in a tight spot because their will be no one to help me, but if I did have a trusted adult by me he/she will help me solve my problems even though I’m in a tight situations just how Zach trusted Sam no matter what the circumstances was.

ReplyDeleteI read the book "Zach's Lie" by Roland Smith.
Summary: The book Zach's Lie is about a boy named Jack Osborne. Jack Osborne lives with his sister Joanne and his mom. His father is in jail right now because he went around the world selling illegal drugs.
One night, 3 guys wearing black masks pulled Jack, Joanne and their mother out of bed. They tied them up with rope, put duct tape on there mouths and sat them down altogether on the couch. Then the mom, Joanne and Jack have to wait thirty minutes tied up until they could become untied because the three guys needed time to get away so the guys would not get caught by the police. The guys threatened them and said that if they spoke with the police they would die.
The FBI was aware of the situation and the danger that was brought to the family. The family had to answer many questions and were hesitating because they were scared that they would die if the three bad guys found out. So the FBI had the family go into the Witness Protection Program. Being part of this meant that they had to change their names, their home, their entire identity. That is such a tragic because the Mom, Joanne and Jack have to leave many things, like school, friends, other family members and the life that they knew. It would be so sad to leave the life that any person grew up in.
Now the family lives in Elko, Nevada. Their last name is Granger and Jack's new first name is Zach. So with Zach moving he is starting at a new school. He meets a nice girl named Catalin, a very nice custodian named Sam, and a bully named Peter. Now these are the new people that are coming into Zach’s new life. It is not fair that Zach has to go through everything that happened with the Witness protection Program and now he has to deal with someone bullying him.
One day at school the bully (Peter) finds Zach's journal that had all of his personal information, like his real life/identity.Since Peter got possession of Zach’s journal he shares that information with a lot of people and then the three bad guys who broke into Zach's house found out who Jack is now in the witness Protection program and almost killed his family. But, Sam cared about Zach/Jack so he got him out of that mess and the bad guys went to jail.
Significant choice: Zach made a good choice by trusting sam and making a good relationship with him instead of not wanting help from a person like Sam, Zach would be in so much trouble. I agree with that choice because if Zach really never knew Sam and gave Sam a chance to show Zach who he really was then Zach and his family could be dead now. This choice that Zach made affected his whole family because if Zach didn’t know Sam then his whole family would be dead now. But since he had known Sam he saved the whole family.

Miranda(the main character), Mom, dad .A meteor hits the moon and there are a bunch of events that happen because of it and most people start running out of food. Miranda decides that she will go check the post office and finds a note about city hall and she goes to city hall in freezing weather. How it affected it made it so her family had food and heat.
The choice she made was during this part of this The family was running low on coal for their heater. Miranda goes outside to see if any of the stores are open. The temperatures are freezing so she puts on her coat. When she is waiting she sees this bit of a flyer. Saying city hall on it she starts moving towards it. But when she gets there the mayor and other people are there. The president sent food for the people she gets there and the mayor sees her. They grab her an extra coat because she is freezing. The mayor tells her about the food that they get from the president each week. Each people get one bag she tells them that she has four people they grab four bags and they go on the snowmobile and leave.
I think this was a good choice that she would leave to find something that she didn’t even know was out this. this tells me, that if I was in this situation I would go to help family even if I don't know what is going on. Through thick and thin I would help my family. This shows that i love my family alot.

Matched by Allie Condie makes people get a feel of what real romance truly is. There is a province with a girl named Cassia Maria Reyes. Cassia is basically owned by the officials. The officials tell Cassia who she is going to marry, what her diet is, how much sleep she gets, When she dies, what she has for a job, etc.
It is Cassia's match banquet, and she arrives in a luxurious green silk dress. Her good friend Emma is at her banquet . Waiting for history to reveal itself that will change two people forever.
Cassia knows Ky from the activity centers every Friday. She starts to intensely fall in love with Ky and finds out that he is the one for her. The society never makes mistakes. Cassia starts having a little crush ongoing on with Ky.
I don’t agree with Cassia's decision because Xander was her best friend.Probably the most compatible boy she could've got matched with, but she followed her heart and that's what love is about.
If I had to make a choice between two guys, I would definitely not date a guy I see every so often. Your best friend knows you and out. Love is between to people that have feelings about each other. Also called your best friend.

Matched by:Ally Condie. Matched takes place in a society where everything is chosen for them. For example the people in the society can only live to be 80, and the society also pick who their match is. Match meaning who they are going to be with for the rest of their life (husband or wife). Usually people are matched with people who they don't know, but not Cassia. Cassia is matched with her best friend Xander! When people are matched they get a micro card telling each match about that person along with showing a picture, but when Cassia goes to look at Xander's micro card a different but familiar face appears. It was Ky Markham an aberration. When Cassia saw this she worried! aberration's aren't supposed to be matched with anyone since they are from outer provinces, but later she was told it was a mishap, Xander is still her match.
But when Cassia and Ky become closer Cassia starts falling for Ky. She only thought Ky, she only dreamed Ky, she broke rules for Ky, she got infractions for Ky! Cassia thought her and Ky were the only ones that knew about their secret love because they only talked in the Arboretum where they hiked together, but they were very wrong. The society knew everything! Since they knew everything Ky was taken away to fight as a soldier for the society, and Cassia and her family moved to the farm. Xander was heartbroken, his match loved someone else!
I agree with Cassia because everyone should be able to chose who they want to marry! Love can’t be forced it just happens. Cassia was very brave to break the rules, the society makes to keep people safe, just to be with her true love and keep him safe.
My opinion about Cassia’s choice is shows me that if you break too many rules, nothing is going to go your way, and things are just going to get worse for her. Even though she was brave to break the rules the outcome wasn’t in her favor.

ReplyDeleteI read Matched by Ally Condie over the summer. The plot was that a girl lives in a world where everything is chosen for them. A girl and boy when at the right age is given her "Match" or partner for life. It's rare that your matched with somebody in your area/district. But she is given her best friend which makes her happy. But when she goes home and looks at the chip it starts out as her best friend but is changed to a new kid who is unable to be matched, who is also a friend that she knows. Her chip is corrected by the government but it starts to bug her as she soons wonder if the chip was wrong. But he is sent away after an event, causing her feelings to change slightly. She goes on a rescue mission with her best friend to rescue him. She then falls in love with both, but must choose one to follow so she follows the boy who cannot be matched.
She made a significant choice by deciding to follow the new kid instead of her best friend. When she decided to rescue him, she had turned herself and her best friend into people who could not be matched. She even decided to follow the other boy despite how he did not feel the same to her. It show's who I am because I believe that people can fall in love even if one does not love the other yet. Though I did not think it was the right choice dragging her best friend into rescuing the boy.

Later on Victor also decided to to leave to The United States to find a job and send money to his family in order to survive since his family was very poor and his dad died so he is the one responsible of taking care of his family. Victor tried to cross the border twice the first time he made it to arizona but got caught in the back of a truck by the border patrol because of a man named Miguel which was Victor's guide but he got caught by the border. Victor got sent back to Nogales. Soon Victor found Rico in Nogales since he got sent back to so they crossed again. Victor and Rico both made it Washington they had good jobs and made good money. Victor send the money to his family, soon Rico decided to go back to go to Silao, Mexico to go back to school. But Victor stayed in Washington he was a lonely wolf again just like he started his dangerous journey to The United States to have a better life and send money to his family back in Mexico. Victor’s choice of going to America impacted his whole family in a positive and negative, like sending the money preventing from Victor’s family from starve to death and prevented his family from living in the streets. But it made his mother to suffer because of Victor’s decision of leaving on a dangerous trip that he could probably even never return from. I agree with Victor’s choice of leaving to the United states because if I would have been in his crisis i would do the same thing to save my family.

The title of the book that I read over the summer was Crossing the Wire by Will Hobbs. The setting is in Los Arboles, Mexico and the U.S. in present time. The main character, Victor Flores has to make a courageous decision on whether to cross the border to try and save his family from going broke, or to stay home and try and get a job. The crop prices have fallen drastically, and he does not make enough money to provide for his family. Victor’s father is dead, and the 15 year-old does not have any coyote money to have a guide help him cross the border.
When Victor decides to try and cross the border on his own, his decision affects his family because until he can find a job, his family has no income. Victor’s friend, Rico, hits Victor with a curveball stating that Rico is going to cross the border the next day with his $1500 in coyote money to have a guide help him cross. Soon afterwards, Victor begins his trip to cross the border. His mom packs him as much food as the family has available, giving taquitos and water, yet the food would not be enough to last Victor his whole journey. First of all, I like the decision that Victor made. I would do the same if I were in his position.
While on a bus to the border to start his journey, Victor meets Miguel who is in the same difficult family position as Victor yet a lot older. It turns out that Miguel ends up helping Victor through his journey to the U.S. During Victor and Miguel’s journey, they face smugglers, Border Patrol, vicious animals, and much more. Victor meets new people for a brief amount of time along the way, but he learns very easily that he has to be self-sufficient in order to survive. I think that Victor is courageous, trustworthy, selfless, and adventurous. In the end, Victor successfully makes it to the U.S after very long journey.

By: Roland Smith
The book Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith is a good book to teach people the consequences of getting involved with bad people. Things completely fall apart when Jack Osborne is, his sister(Joanne) and his mom are attacked late one night. It turns out Jack's father (Neil) has been illegally helping a drug dealer named Alonzo Aznar transport drugs to different warehouses. Jack’s father was imprisoned, and Alonzo attacked Jack to make sure Neil does not rat him out. To prevent any further harassments, the police put the Osbornes (excluding their father) into a Witness Protection Program. It is not long before Alonzo, with the help of Peter(a boy who has despised Zach since he made a move on Catalin), figures out where the Osbornes have run off to.
It also affected Alonzo because even though he was getting a lot of help from Zach’s dad, it was also putting him at great risk in case anything like Neil getting arrested came up.

Jack, Joanne, and their Mom are being searched for by the man so that they can try to kill them to Dad. One night, three men come into Jack's house. They threaten to kill Jack, Joanne, and Mom if they tell anyone about it.
The next morning, the family does not tell, but the DEA come into the house to inspect it, and the family is questioned. They leave for a hotel and join the Witness Protection Program. Jack is now Zach, Joanne is now Wanda, and Mom is now Mary. The family is now known as the Granger's.
The Granger's live in Elko, Nevada, a small town in north Nevada. There, Zach goes to a small middle school, where he meets Sam, a piano playing boxing custodian and a pretty girl named Catalin. Zach soon makes friends with Catalin, Sam, and a boy named Darell.
Zach's life is finally starting to get normal. He has an after school job with Sam at his workshop, and after that, he gets to eat at the Nevada Hotel, where his friend Catalin is helping out. When Peter Steals Zach’s journal and finds out his true identity He goes to Alonzo and fesses up Peter said who they were where they were. That was a huge mistake. When Peter gave back Zach’s journal he said “i got what i needed”. And thats when it happened. Later they were ready for them Zach And Sam set up traps and bases. Then they came armed men walked in and Sam said there are no trap even when there is. So then Sam Beat them with his Boxing skills and the cops got them. Now Zach has to change his name again and move again.
What is with the real life you ask? well If you really have a secret that may not be told don’t fess up but Zach Did well, not really but Peter found out from his journal Even if a secret that you can not tell hurts someone try not to spill.

The book I read for my summer read was Matched by Ally Condie. Matched is a dystopian style book much like the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth . The book takes place in a post apocalyptic nation called The Society. In The Society the leaders control everyone and everything, what you eat, who you marry, what activities you do ,and when you die. Although there were many important characters in this book this book. The most important character in this book was Cassia. In the beginning of this book Cassia attends her match banquet that every boy and girl in the society must attend once they turn sixteen. At Cassia’s match banquet she is overjoyed to find out that Xander her best friend is her match. But shocked when she plays her information card and finds out that she has two matches Xander and Ky. The government assures Cassia that this is a mistake, but she later on finds out what it really is. Cassia finds out later in the book that having Ky on her information card was a government trick to see if you could fall in love with someone who is not your match. So Cassia is forced to move to the outer province with her family. And the big decision in this book is when Cassia must choose whether to have Ky stay with her and put himself in danger ,or have Ky go to a different province and ensure his safety. I agree with Cassia’s decision to send Ky to another province because if you love someone a lot you should want the best life they can possibly have.

Cassia is in a "perfect" world where everything is decided by the society. The people make no decisions for themselves because the Society decides who they marry, where they live, and when they die. When a teenager reaches the age of seventeen they will be matched with their “soul mate”, everything is carefully thought about when choosing a match for someone. When Cassia is given her information chip which will tell her all about her match there is a glitch. The chip first shows a picture of Xander and then quickly flickers to a picture of Ky who is an aberration. An aberration is someone who is not allowed to be matched because of a rebellion they or a family member took participation in. Cassia soon starts to develop feelings for Ky, even though she has been matched with her best friend, Xander. She soon decides she wants to make her own choices. Cassia decides that she wants to be with Ky even though she was matched with someone else. Cassia and Ky eventually are separated since the society thinks that their relationship could be the beginning of another rebellion. I honestly think that cassia made an excellent decision and a terrible decision at the same time. I think that this is the best decision because she is following her heart and she is fighting for love. I also think that this is the worst decision for her to make because she wasn't thinking and she was just doing! She wasn't thinking about how this decision she made will affect everyone she loves and cares for! I do not agree with her decision because of her not thinking. I think that Cassia and I are alike because we both do what we want to do and not what we were told to do. Except for the fact that I would not put my family in harms way all for a teen romance. I really don't like Cassia because she has no common sense and just goes around doing whatever she feels like in the spur of the moment.

Zach's Lie by Roland Smith in this book Jack a young boy who finds out his dad is illegally selling drugs and the man in charge of Jack dad is threatening their family so Jack changes his name to Zach and him and his family try staying low radar so this man can't kill Zach's family but one day three men break into Zach's house and tell them if they panic they will die and they can't tell the men anything because they could give away a clue that can lead them to Zach's dad.
After the incident Zach returns to school and makes a friend Catalin the school custodian. He tells her what happened to his family and he soon finds out she is a spy. This was a big choice that in the end really helped his family. Meeting Catalin helped Zach and his family get out of danger.
I think Zach becoming friends with Catalin was bad choice because he told her all these secrets about his family and that could have gotten him killed. This shows who I am because I am not a risk taker so i would not tell a friend all these secrets.

Crossing The Wire by Will Hobbs, an adventurous thrilling book, that sets a mind boggling picture. It takes place in the village of Los Arboles Mexico, Arizona, and in Washington in the US .
Question: Should Rigsby’s parents be charged with neglect for letting their son do so much gaming?
ReplyDeleteShould Rigsby’s parents be charged with neglect for letting their son do so much gaming?
Rigsby’s parents did not pay much attention to Rigsby because in the article the evidence from the text said “ Early Tuesday morning in Columbus, Ohio, 15 year old Tyler Rigsby emerged from his bedroom after at least four straight days of playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, lured out of his by his mom with the promise of visiting his aunt’s house.” First, this shows that his parents haven’t payed attention to their own son in FOUR DAYS!!! Can you believe having parents like those who only pay attention to you when you pass out and make a loud thump to the ground! His parents ignored him so much that after he fell 3 Times, “ his face was pale and his lips were blue.” Rigsby was dehydrated and exhausted from all the time he spent doing a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare marathon 4 days straight.
Second, the saying goes on that teenagers have a “ bizarre tendency to game till you drop”. Can you imagine someone prolly sacrificing their life for a stupid and dangerous/ hazardous gaming marathon. Also, the sub title of one of the paragraphs Did Rigsby really play Modern Warfare for four days? has a scary and bad ring to it or even a fatalities situation to it. The article states that “ Four or five , his family isn’t really sure. Rigsby did nap a couple hours here and there during his marathon gaming session, and leave his room a few times- for snacks, bathroom breaks, and a quick shower.” Does that sound good to you , or does it sound like bad parenting? For my opinion, it sounds like,... BAD PARENTING!!!!!
Third, If you were a parent, would you let your kid do whatever without you knowing and don’t go check and see what he is doing or do the opposite, because if you say the first then you might as well be saying “ I want to see my kid die because of video games!!!! Even if you would never say that, that is what your actions say and tell you, your child, and even family and the people you know that you would say that.

Zach’s Lie
In ‘Zach’s Lie’, it teaches us to understand that our parents and guardians do what’s best for us, to keep us safe. Zach seems like a regular kid when moving to Elko Nevada, but the truth is, it’s all a lie. Zach Granger is really Jack Osborne. Jack’s dad Smuggled drugs across the country illegally. His dad didn’t plan to work for them long, he just needed the money. When his dad quit, he was arrested because the police found out. The men he was working for did NOT want the police to find out who they were, so Alonzo and the other bad guys threatened to kill his family if Jack’s dad told the police. Jack’s family was then moved into the Witness Protection Program. Jack and his family had to leave everything behind, with no choice. The Osborne’s were now the Grangers. New names, new looks, and all lies. Jack couldn’t believe it, he didn’t want to believe it. Before they left, Zach took his journals with him, that he wrote in all the time. They were the only thing left of his father, since he gave them to Jack, and his past. When Zach got to Nevada, It takes a while to get used to it. Zach begins to like Elko when, unluckily, an 8th grader named Peter finds his journals and begins tormenting him with the past. Zach tries his best to make Peter tell no one, but Peter wants to make a deal; Zach can never talk to Cat, his girlfriend, ever again, and leave his new reputation, or he’ll tell everyone. With already this hard decision, Zach does not know that Peter met some men, looking for him. Zach can’t decide, and Peter goes back to the men, giving them all he knows. Zach doesn’t know what to do when he finds out he told the men. All flustered and scared enough, the Custodian, Sam, finds out too. But, to Zach’s luck, he used to be a secret agent. Sam comes up with a plan, and they trap and knockout all the bad guys. Zach seems as if everything is great, until he finds out they have to leave because it’s still too dangerous if they escape prison. So Zach and his family aboard the plane, and realize their dad was let out of prison, and was able to see them again.
I think Zach made a bad choice of bringing his journals. I know Zach would really miss his dad and the past, but couldn’t he bring something else to remind him of his past and dad? I think it was a bad idea, because anyone could just steal his journals. If i were zach, I would leave them behind. I know zach loves his father and misses him and his past, but it’s not a good idea if you have people hunting your family down, do you know what I mean?
I think Jack’s choice relates to me because I love my father too, and I have many stories and pictures and more of my past. My past made me, me. Just like it did for Zach. But In this case, it would be a big risk to keep a journal of your real past.

The book i am reading is called the Hunger Games. The book is about a girl named Katnis and a boy named peeta and they get chosen to go to the hunger games. They just wake up in a open area with 11 other districts that got chosen and they have to fight to the death. Whoever wins gets a ton of money and are famous to the towns people. Katnis is a very brave person because she volunteered to go because her sister got picked and I wish I was that brave if my brother was chosen. So far in the book it there has been lots of action when they get to the battle area. This book is very good so far and I am looking forward to reading the next hunger games books in the series. I'm not going to say who wins because you can find that out yourself by reading it.

15 year old boy named tyler rigsby sent to the emergency room for playing on his xbox for four to five day straight. He only made quick breaks for some snacks and a couple trips to the bathroom. Tyler was addicted. His parents stopped him and went to his aunts as the were talking he fainted and was sent to the emergency room.
Tyler was dehydrated. The doctor said “ when you expel more liquids than you drink your blood volume shrink lowering blood pressure sometimes to the point where a lack of oxygen in our brain makes you pass out.”This means that just from not drinking you can pass out. I never thought that videogames can affect your health. brain swelling, seizures, kidney failure, coma, blood clots, and death can all be caused by dehydration.
Gamers that forget to drink liquids in the past have died. an 18 year old boy died in a cafe from 40 non stop hours and another boy died after 3 days with only a couple breaks. These non stop gamers are not only kids “a british mother was banned from the internet and given a two year suspended sentence for neglecting her three kids and two dogs because she was so engrossed in the online game small world” if gamers insist on playing for a long period of time then they need to gain some common sense.
In my opinion I think video games are negative on some games because there are
fun happy games and on the other side there is very violent games which most kids choices are. This impacts all children and teens that choose to play the bad violent games kids my thin this is things that they can do in real life. That is why I think that some video games are bad.

DeleteI think that a good choice that Zach made was to not tell anyone about his real self. This really impacted his family in a good way because if he said somthing he would get his family killed. I think the choice Zach made is a great choice because it saved their lives and if I was him i would do the same thing. I like the way he acted because i dont want anyone to get killed even if its just in a book so i would just do what is right.

ReplyDeleteI am reading Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, and today I read 65 pages, and wrote down setting, characters, and vocab words. In my story, Isabel and her sister Ruth are slaves and Madam doesn't treat them well. The pages I read were all about how the sisters have a lot to worry about, with a plan to escape slavery.
